Ok, I know...

Desired Release Cue is a tick on the pbil that displays the time from release to impact. I should put it on target and set Min Alt to 0 so as not to display that Minimum Range Staple which is the minimum range to release the weapon.

Thing is, I just tried CCIP in a mixed configuration of altitudes.

What I did constantly:

1. Set DESTOF to 20 seconds.

2. Set Min Alt to 0 ft

3. Open speedbrake just to keep speed constant on target.

4. Use throttle to control speed as above

5. Check TOT numeric on HUD lower right corner. Before TOT = 20 seconds, I dive.

What is variable:

1. the altitude

I broke decks of 12,000 ft - 7,000 ft - and 3,000 ft.

2. wiper effect

very annoying when u come in straight to target and it is now to a little right or left on the dive.

is there a way to keep the nose on target? what HUD indication should I use? the Gun + or TVV -b- or depressible pipper?

more importantly: how to counter the wiper effect??

3. The depressible pipper.

I changed the pipper depression to 140 mils

As I struck my first target from 12000 ft, recovered at 2,200 ft, I shacked a T-55 spot on, and not frag effect.

Which brings me to my query: Is there a HUD indication for mil depression besides the depressible pipper numeric to the left? or they shifted it in Charlie to the left instead of right next to altitude tape?

4. PBIL and DRC not appearing constantly on the dive.

Only appeared from a 12,000 ft dive.

Finally,

is there a way to get the HUD to look like A-10A?

Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.

Some correction and findings..

Reason 'random DRC' is because I changed TOF from numbers to zero. I should RTFM often! :music_whistling:

Anyways, Mk-82's are far better ballistically than Mk-82 AIRs, and I really hate those AIR variants for being that lame and complex...

Back on topic:

How to get the DRC to appear FAR AWAY from MRS and not get an X (valid release solution) on MRS or MRS then DRC on the PBIL??

According to the known paper, If I get an X only on MRS, just push a lickle, but both needs an abort run..

Having said that, I think I'll go ahead with Devil's cross and use 82's to full..

Getting really good with it.

Thanks ED for this bomb, but no thanks for 82 AIR's..

I find that using the Gun bore line helpful in countering the wiper effect. If you place any of those adjusted pippers on the target you're actually maneuvering your aircraft based on a reference point beneath your nose.

As for the depressible pipper, doesn't the stand by HUD just repeat the same thing but with a 50mil (?) pipper that also has a mils-depressed scale on its right side? Haven't played with this thing whatsoever except to use it as a glorified WW2 reflector sight when doing a "glass free" flight profile for analog instrument only practice.

Warning: Nothing I say is automatically correct, even if I think it is.

Genrally speaking, with a CCIP dive attack, you pick a spot beyond the target (on your final attack heading/on the ground) that will be the point you "aim" the plane at (aim with TVV)

If your geometry was right you would roll out of your dive and offset turn, place the nose on this imaginary point (beyond the target). This point should also correspond with the desired aircraft attitude for delivery... which is pretty tricky. In falcon parlance this point is termed Offset Aim 2 (OA2).

With the TVV on OA2 delicately maneuver the PBIL so it's over the target and let the pipper track over. When the thing hits the thing, pickle.

If you'd like I'll prepare a long winded track :P showing how to create a flight plan to assist with the offsets and altitudes in order to get a consistent result. The attack I've been focussed on for far too long is the 10º pop with low drag mark 82s.

For SEM, TOF and MIN ALT I'd recommend flying some attack profiles and hitting active pause with the pipper on target (and all other attack parameters met). Mess with the settings like this to appreciate the effect they have on the HUD symbology for given attitude, altitude and speed. make sure you use static targets as well :D

that is actually a very good idea (activ pause). Thanks man, now why havent I thought of that..

There are some excellent articles written by a retired pilot that explain how to attack ground targets using dumb bombs. He goes into great detail on how to maneuver the aircraft into the proper position for a successful attack. You can find the articles here: http://www.simhq.com/_air/acc_library.html
