m1tp2king Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 hi. in other combat flight sims if you reduce your speed the enemy radar distance of spoting of you reduces. e.g. DID's, F22 combat flight sim. is this moddeled in lock on ? because when i reduce my airspeed ( lockon), it makes no difference at all ! what about FC 1, FC 2 or FC3 ? also flying at a lower altitude in DID's F22 shortens the enemies ability to spot you with their radar. when i fly at low altitudes in lock on it again makes no difference. what do you all think ??
Frostie Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 A radar image is built on the reflection of the size and shape of an object. If you fly lower than the enemies radar and attempt to notch it by flying across its beam (3/9 line) then you can slip into the radars notch. That is, the enemies radar rejects you because of your lack of approaching speed. Your own radar performance will be reduced if you fly low. "[51☭] FROSTIE" #55 'Red 5'. Basically, what Frostie said but I want to add, that it all depends on the radar. Any A2A bird that you have available to fly has a modern pulse Doppler radar that allows you to spot aircraft down in the weeds. The AI models of those aircraft will behave similarly. OTOH, not all aircraft in the sim have modern radars. Some are modelled as being affected by ground clutter. So, against the right aircraft, you can disappear off their radar screens by getting low enough. I used to play that game with the AI all the time in LOMAC. As far as "seeing" distance is concerned, you can increase the distance at which you can spot approaching aircraft by switching your scan to a high PRF rather than keeping it set to the default "Auto" which interweaves high and medium PRFs. GGTharos Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 It isn't modeled. It is important for some radars, like the APG-63 because it does in fact has a mode that can detect bandits further out than normal by using this method, but it is not modeled. hi. in other combat flight sims if you reduce your speed the enemy radar distance of spoting of you reduces. e.g. DID's, F22 combat flight sim. is this moddeled in lock on [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
