dburne Posted November 29, 2012 Posted November 29, 2012 Hey gang, So anyway I have been going through the aircraft startup training, over, and over, and over, etc etc - I am determined to get all this in my head in order to be able to perform a cold start in sequence. Ok - there is one point during the startup, that I get a master caution light on. It is after I move the left throttle to idle, to fire up the left engine. Before it gets to 60% rpm, the master caution goes off, and I just press the button to turn it off. This is the only time during the startup procedure, that I get this. Just wondering if this is the norm? The instructor does not mention it in the training segment. Progressing further - soon I will move on to takeoff and navigation, combat deployment, landing. I seem to recall seeing some discussion here, that with the latest version of the sim in DCS World, some of this training is broken? Just wondering, if I will hit some sessions that I go - what the heck? While I have been doing the aircraft startup training, I have been going ahead and taking off, flying around, and then landing again. I am getting pretty decent at getting it down on the runway - one thing I did that really helped, was go to exterior view and then viewed an ai craft landing, noted the speed, when he deployed the speedbrake ,etc. After watching that, I greased in the best landing I have done so far. Of course, when I get to the actual training on how to do it proper, I am sure I will have to re-learn lol. What a great sim, really enjoying going through this learning curve. robert123456 Posted November 29, 2012 Posted November 29, 2012 It is a great sim indeed and has more depth than one would think. When you get the master caution light check the caution light panel (page 164 on the manual so you know what it is) and see what does it tell, i.e. which light is flashing so you know what the alarm is for. As for landings im no expert but one thing i learnt is to not get impatient and the more prepared (distance, heading, speed, etc.) the easier the landing.

Can I suggest you look around here and check out the various start-up checklists available or make one for yourself rather than trying to get it all into your head ;). It's not cheating (it's what the pilots would do in real life) and makes life much easier to make sure you don't miss a step. I would say that you'll have an APU GEN caution lighting up on you (which is tripping the master caution) once the 1st engine started has enough power to provide for the electrical systems from its generator. This is normal. Flip off the APU GEN switch and that will shut off the master warning. This behaviour was added/changed in one of the more "recent" (like in the last 4-5 months) so it probably isn't reflected in the training missions. 1

Ah, ok thanks for that, I will certainly give that a try. Did it again this evening and as soon as the master caution came on after starting up the left engine, I flipped the APU GEN off and it went away. Hamblue Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 Now that you can land I would suggest not using the external view. It just creates bad habbits. At this point you should be able to land ok. dburne Posted November 30, 2012 Author Posted November 30, 2012 I typically do not, I only use external view for a moment or two whilst flying just to look at the plane - eye candy :). I have never used it whilst taking off or landing.
