Megagoth1702 Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 Hey guys, it is very impressive to see an IR pointer go through the sky pointing at your target and the coolest thing about it is - it's AI (A-10C as AFAC). So I was wondering - who else can IR point? Predator drone is not capable of this. And who can do what in general? What units can use an IR pointer? What units can use laser marker? What units can use WP smoke? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] System specs:2500k @ 4.6 GHz 8GB RAM HD7950 OC'd Win7 x64 Posting tracks to make your DCS better - attention bump incoming!
Evil.Bonsai Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 I'm pretty sure I've used a predator with an IR pointer. But otherwise: most armed vehicles should, I think (humvee with .50 cal machine the least of them). I like to use the Kiowa helicopter.
Evil.Bonsai Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 As I thought: here's the Predator using the IR Pointer on some tanks.
sobek Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 Any JTAC can use an IR pointer, AFAIK. All vehicles that are armed can serve as JTACs. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
Megagoth1702 Posted December 5, 2012 Author Posted December 5, 2012 (edited) As I thought: here's the Predator using the IR Pointer on some tanks. Oh what?! I am 100% sure I had the same setup as I have right now with my A-10 and the predator did not use IR pointer. That's what weirded me out, because the predator is mainly a UAV and therefore should be very capable of providing targetind data, digitally and via all kinds of marks... I will re-check my mission right now. Thanks for the heads up. I attached my mission - Predator does not want to mark with IR pointer. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?jtac Test.miz Edited December 5, 2012 by Megagoth1702 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] System specs:2500k @ 4.6 GHz 8GB RAM HD7950 OC'd Win7 x64 Posting tracks to make your DCS better - attention bump incoming!
Evil.Bonsai Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 Looked at your mission and it acted a bit odd. First attempt, jtac responds with type 2, marked by IR, but before I could get to IP Inbound, was messaged No Mark. checked out and re-checked in and got a type 3, no mark, a few more times. Tried moving your Predator to 10000, but no help there. For what it's worth, my predator was at 6000 ft. I didn't try moving yours any closer. Sometimes mission files just get wonky. Try deleting and re-creating, and maybe moving the predator lower. Probably shouldn't have to, but hey, give it a try.
Megagoth1702 Posted December 6, 2012 Author Posted December 6, 2012 Nah man, this behaviour is inconsistent and I don't feel like fiddling with something that is as inconsistent. :-/ I'm glad I am not the only one seeing this problem though as it happened to you as well. With my mission file. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] System specs:2500k @ 4.6 GHz 8GB RAM HD7950 OC'd Win7 x64 Posting tracks to make your DCS better - attention bump incoming!
Druid_ Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 OK guys it looks like there are a few bugs that were introduced inadvertantly in 1.2.2. One of the Devs is looking into the JTAC code as well as 'possibly' adding a few ME GUI features to make its use of IR pointers/lasers etc a little easier (e.g. distance from target is a factor). so for now ... please standby.... i7-7700K : 16Gb DDR4 2800 Mhz : Asus Mobo : 2TB HDD : Intel 520 SSD 240gb : RTX 2080ti: Win10 64pro : Dx10 : TrackiR4 : TM Warthog : ASUS ROG SWIFT PG348Q
