No probs here what so ever. Duel booted to begin with and was fully prepared to take win8 off and put it in a desk drawer till SP1 launch, but when I installed it, it worked flawlessly. I bought it for my laptop too. Needless to say I wiped my machine and did a fresh install of win8 and do not now use win7.

I have windows 8 on one home pc on a touchscreen, its nice for doing normal stuff but there is no way it is going anywhere near my gaming machine.

Windows 8 is for the smart phone / touchscreen pc / tablet, not for gaming machines.

Absolutely dead wrong.

I would wager you have not bothered to try it as a gaming platform if you make such a statement. It is all of the things you mention but it is also every bit as much a desktop/gaming/productivity OS as Windows 7.

Care to name any of these particular problems you had under 7 that are now gone with 8?

I never said I had problems under Windows 7. I did not have many problems at all under Windows 7 aside from the very rare and occasional crash due to a driver or software issue (I have 3 gaming rigs on my LAN). My point is that I have had even less crashes under Windows 8. More stable. Get it...More! Boots faster, runs all my gaming hardware and software, crashes less, better file copy interface, best of both GUI's.

I upgraded my Win7 to Win8. Had some trouble afterwards. Could not run A-10C without some tweaking. For example, problems with Helios and TrackIR. Also, Windows decided to rearrange my display settings (three screens). But managed to get everything OK eventually.

No problems for me with any of these. All working fine under Windows 8. I have not tried HELIOS yet though I bet it will work. TrackIR does, Cougar/Warthog does, TFS3 (ivibe) does. Multiple displays work perfectly fine using both Nvidia and AMD drivers under Windows 8.
