I am using a Warthog Hotas controller. In order to be able to use the stick hat switch to change views, I have to press L Ctrl on the keyboard whilst moving the hat to trim the aircraft. As the A10 needs a lot of trimming this is inconvenient. I have programmed the unused 4 lever on the stick front to be a modifier as Ctrl, but holding this in does not allow trimming, i fact nothing happens other than a twitch on screen. Can anyone suggest a way to program a key to act as Ctrl and allow trimming via the hat.

All suggestions appreciated.

I use the pinky switch on throttle as modifier( the one that normaly would be pushed by the pinky finger;) and make shure there are no bindings that are the same, and add it as a modifier button, but i guess u know that;)

Well I also use the Warthog Hotas stick plus TrackIR, so I have no need for the view panning functions which are assigned to the trim hat by default. I just deleted those bindings and then assigned each trim direction on the hat switch to the trim functions.

I guess if you don't have TrackIR, you could still do this but in order to pan the view around, just use the pinky switch paddle as a modifier.

Thanks for the replies. I guess you guys are more computer literate than me, because as I tried to explain, I need to use the hat switch to look around & so assigned the paddle on the Hotas stick to be the L ctrl modifier for trim. This doesn't seem to work. There is nothing else assigned to this switch. Holding L ctrl on the keyboard whilst using the hat switch to trim works fine, but assigning the paddle switch to L ctrl doesn't seem to work.Is there something else I should be doing, or have done wrong?

Old video of mine that describes the custom modifier:

The point here is:

You are seeing L Ctrl + Hat as trim.

You are then trying to turn a separate switch into being L Ctrl (through just naming it that?) - this does not work! (Unless you do a fancy replacement that is sort of tricking the system, and unecessary in this case.)

Instead, create a new modifier, then simply go to the things you want to re-map as shown and select that modifier you created.

Set the padle as a modifer and adjust your key bindings
