pbpullman Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 I've been flying the DCS A-10c for quite awhile now, and I felt now was a good time to move into fighters. I bought the original lomac from the Ubisoft site, and I'm wondering if it's really worth the time to get into. I play for ultimate realism and my computer has great hardware. I want to fly the Flaming Cliffs series and I'm wondering if it makes sense to go straight to FC3 now, as an experienced flight simmer (and real pilot actually), or should I start with lomac and progress through FC 1 and 2? Any thoughts from those who have been down the same roads would be appreciated. :pilotfly:
fitness88 Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 If you want to see if you have any interest in the sim without making an investment into FC3 then I'd play around with Lomac first, it will certainly give you a taste of FC3. There is certainly a quality difference between Lomac and FC3. I've flown them all and will say that FC3 WHEN FINISHED will be well worth the investment...but it is still in beta with lots of bugs!
Weta43 Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 If you do try LOMAC to investigate FC3, don't forget that although to listen to some people nothing has been improved except the graphics & the ME, actually quite a lot has. Radar modelling (both at a detection level, and things like modelling different prf), weapons modelling, AI, available units, terrain, graphics, sound, etc, etc have all been improved. Out of curiosity I fired up LOMAC a couple of months ago & when I did it seemed a much more primitive product... Cheers.
Azrayen Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 I honestly see no use at all to "train" on LOMAC before going to FC3. If your question was about training, that is. If your question was about "is FC3 worth it", then LOMAC will give you clues. But clues ontly, not an overall answer (because you won't be able to compare, for yourself, FC3 flyables upgrades e.g. flight model (still SFM, but a bit better), russian radar modelling... etc. ++ Az'
pbpullman Posted December 12, 2012 Author Posted December 12, 2012 Thanks people for the tips. I've settled on FC2...most stable and featured release out right now, plenty of aircraft, and since mission editor is basically same as DCS, hopefully I'll have some missions written by the time FC3 is stable. Pilotasso Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 FC3 is just as simple (or complex if you will) as FC2, you dont gain much. The only difference will be how you employ missiles (potencial gravitic energy now afects missile range), but then again it adds nothing to complexity, and you just might avoid getting bad vices from Fc2. .
GGTharos Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Actually you do gain a lot. Even just for SP, missions can become much more complex. You also gain continued support and development with inclusion of new features and modules that can be used together with FC3, such as CA. The continued development of the dynamic mission generator can also be of use. For MP, you get to fly around with everyone else if you want to ... no segregation of DCS modules any more. Vekkinho Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 (edited) I see no point in playing LOMAC to get used to FC3...it can only misguide you as most of the featured aircraft systems (radar, EOS, HUD, SPO) evolved and are featured more realistically with FC3. IIRC there was a faulty gun pipper with Russian birds in LOMAC. Oh yes, 6DOF cockpits and all the eye candy stuff is a huge improvement as well. Unlike FC1, 2 or 3 LOMAC had no advanced flight models of Su-25 and 25T. Same can be said with misslile and bullet performance, their trajectory and range are tweaked so both are now affected by gravity. It simply feels better now. I dunno what exactly changed with radar system and flight characteristics of F-15C and A-10A since OMAC as I never ever flew any of them. You see, I got this thing with imperial units so when I see IAS of 140 at 1000 AGL during final I automatically throttle up and point my nose down!
