Ezor Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 It's impossible and there is no more program to do that ! That's all ... 3rd-wing
Brit_Radar_Dude Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 It took ED several man-years of effort to create the map - it is unlikely we will get a new map. Most folks would rather pay for new aircraft than new maps. Anyway have you explored the whole of the Crimea/Caucasus map yet? Have you taken off and landed at every airbase in day and night, good weather and bad, crosswinds, fog? Have you landed in both directions - set a strong wind along the runway and the ILS will guide you in from the other direction, just watch out for bases near big hills like Novorissisk, Gelendzhik, the ILS will try and guide into the hills........D'Oh! Have you ever flown around the area east of Maykop from Psebaj to Essentuki? Probably not as I have not seen a single community mission/campaign set in this forgotten corner......... The only talk of new maps has been their future plan of an F-16 vs MiG Sim based in Middle East. But that is several years into the future..... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Sorry Death, you lose! It was Professor Plum....
jabog32_zillion Posted November 25, 2005 Posted November 25, 2005 it's quite sad in fact... but until now without proper understanding of the file formats and the required converters I think it will be nearly impossible. Making the terrain itself would not be so hard with all free GIS software around and if there would be an open directory structure of all scenery props (buildings, roads, rail lines, power lines, trees) you could with a few talented friends make one theoretically. I already have the height data, all rivers, lakes, roads, rail lines for the kaukasus area downloaded from various sources. You can look at the GIS data Depot under transport for west russia and for height maps you can look at the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission files or directly via ftp... Then you will need to export those geotiffs and vector based shape files. I really like Microdem (the official Hompage seems to be down for some reason) and Global Mapper (Not freeware) for viewing, exporting, downscaling and adjusting your data... Unfortunatly you can not simply import all of that to 3dsmax or maya, send it to Eagle Dynamics (and pray) because much of the lomac world is not made from a huge scene file but rather "created" from the relatively small data files and put into the world by means of programming or scripting... So, again without knowledge of how things are in LockOn, you won't get very far... What you could do is query Eagle Dynmics by email until they give in, explain some of their technologies and name some of their used programs so you can start to get a grasp of whats going on when the loading screen appears before entering a mission and ultimatly how to convert and save your files... If you can get any information from Ealge Dynamics let us know... regards zillion

Sumwhere on this forum a month or 10, or more ago, sum1 (perhaps it was Swingkid?) once said that ED had contracted an external company to create the map for lo-mac. ED apparentley posess the technical specs about how it works but they wont release the technical details publicly. They are afraid sum1 else copies this idea and uses it in a competing product. It was mentioned in that post (cant find it now) is that the likelihood of ED releasing any info about how to create, or extend maps, vehicles, or anything map-related is for the forseeable future close to nihil:icon_frow. At the very least as a community effort suom1 could try to make a default map containing some structures around turkey, Romania and bulgaria. The very least we could HOPE for is if ED could populate the are around turkey, Romania, Bulgaria with some ground objects, or roads. Maybe if we beg and pray ED would do that? met vriendelijke groet, Михель "умный, спортсмен, комсомолетс" [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] [TABLE]SPECS: i9-9900K 32gigs RAM, Geforce 2070RTX, Creative XFi Fata1ity, TIR5, Valve Index & HP Reverb, HOTAS Warthog, Logitech G933 Headset, 10Tb storage.[/TABLE]
