I just installed DCS Worlds for the first time. Also installed Combined Arms for the first time. When I ran Combined Arms after install. I don't see an option to play Combined Arms. It only gave me the option to launch the Su-25 as a Campaign.

How do I actually play with controlling tanks, sams, etc?

I also own A-10c but I haven't installed it yet, was going to do that next. Wanted to play with Combined Arms a bit first.

I was actually thinking the same, which makes me feel like an idiot. I've had it since it came out and still haven't bothered figuring it out.

The mission must allow the CA use. For every mission you start, you should be able to choose "Ground Commander" or "Game Master" as slot... in this way, you play a CA slot only. If no CA slot is available in the mission, maybe* you can access to ground control once you're in cockpit of the Su-25T.

Then, you can use the F10 map (command map) to control every controllable vehicle. To play any of them, there is a proper icon on the top left of the screen, active every time that you choose a first-person controllable ground unit.

Most of the info are in the manual... so The very first suggestion is to take a look at it.

* "maybe" means that the mission needs to allow the pilots to control vehicles throgh the corresponding options, otherwise nothing will work.

The thing is, helicopters are different from planes. An airplane by it's nature wants to fly, and if not interfered with too strongly by unusual events or by a deliberately incompetent pilot, it will fly. A helicopter does not want to fly. It is maintained in the air by a variety of forces in opposition to each other, and if there is any disturbance in this delicate balance the helicopter stops flying; immediately and disastrously.

Combined Arms includes a number of missions which you can access from the missions menu.

I recommend reading the manual first, it's quite small anyway.

Yeah, RTFMing won't do harm ;)

Alternatively, you could use the mission generator to get your feet wet.

  • In the title screen click on CREATE FAST MISSION
  • Click on ADVANCED MODE
  • The options are pretty straight forward, select the ones you want but don't forget to set VEHICLES at least to MIN.
  • Click on GENERATE
  • Now the tricky part, click on EDIT MISSION, that will take you to the Mighty Mission Editor. Don't fret, you only have to do one simple task.
  • On the left panel, under MISC section, click on the small flags icon BATTLEFIELD COMMANDERS.
  • Click on PILOT CAN CONTROL VEHICLES.
  • Run the mission clicking on the blue icon on the left panel FLY MISSION. It will ask you to save the mission, click on YES.
  • When the mission starts press F10 to access the command map. Click on one random ground unit on your side and then click on the JTAC view. If the JTAC icon doesn't appear when you click on the unit, click on another one until it shows up.

Hope that helps.

Does Combined Arms work in Campaign mode? For example, I have A-10 running and Combined Arms installed. When I launch the Campaign - Georgian Hammer, It never ask if I want to play as Game Master, Ground Force Commander, etc. Pressing F-10 after game launch does not reveal any Command Options for me.

you need a slot for the Groundcommander and the units playable for clients/player!

Geprgian Hammer was made before CA was released - no control over the ground units!

Actually, they did update GH for use with CA. Forget if it was a separate download or not, though. I have both GH and GH with CA enabled.

Hmmm...I sympathize with the original poster's plight. I'm no idiot, but what I thought we were getting was a game plugin, much like A-10 or BS, that would come up as an option when you started DCS World. From the docs, it was not obvious to me that this drops in more like an add-on to existing games. I, too, was looking for a "combined arms" button off of the launch menu. My expectation certainly was highly involved in my not understanding the manual and what the game is and how you access it.

My suggestion: Put at the very top of the manual: "How you start Combined Arms", and then include, in gory detail, that the game is not a separate game launched from the DCS World menu, but rather it is accessed from within other game modules when you are flying a mission. Yes, I see now that the info is in the manual, but it didn't click for me when I first read it because I just wasn't expecting it to work this way.

My 2 cents...worth all you paid for it...
