Hello,

DCS is currently featured on the Steam Sale and I'm tempted to get it, however I'd like to ask a few questions first.

1. I'm fairly new to flight games (Currently play IL-2 Sturmovik and War Thunder) and have no 'equipment' save for a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro joystick. Would I still be able to get the 'full' experience?

2. How steep is the learning curve? I'm well aware that flight sims are complex and take a lot of patience, but does this game accommodate with proper tutorials and tools for getting started?

3. Does the game feel 'complete'? It has a generally positive reception from critics, but I've seen complaints about bugs and the like.

Thank you in advance.

First of all, we need to clarify, what you are talking about.

DCS A10 is as well on sale as DCS Black Shark.

DCS A10 is a complex combat simulator, which can not be compared to IL2. It is much more detailed and can be much more frustrating, if you straight jump into it, as you could do in IL2. I would recommend to have a look at the manual first, which is available in the DCS homepage.

To answer your questions based on A10:

1) You do need a joystick, it is absolutely necessary. The full experience is hard to measure. I got a good experience with my old X52 pro but it was a whole new world with a TM Warthog. A10 is a simulator for enthusiasts in my opinion and you must have a lot of motivation to learn all the details.

2) You can check the tutorials on youtube. I think they are uploaded. Just search "DCS A10C Trainings" My Youtube is currently not working :(

3) I did not find a bug in it till now. It is worth the 10$ you pay at the moment!

For a less complex flight simulator where you can get a feeling for DCS is the Flaming Cliffs 3 Beta or even LOMAC or FC2. I would suggest you watch some videos on youtube. It really helps a lot to get a feeling for the simulator. Check out Ralfidude on youtube. He does fantastic movies which are fun to watch both A10 and FC3.

For further questions, don't hesitate to ask ;)

1. Download DCS world for free first. At least you can check out the general feel before you buy. Any joystick will do. If you're short of cash and want a decent stick check out T-Flight HOTAS X. I think you'll be alright.

2. It's complex but the training is really great when it comes to start up.

3. Quite a few bugs around, especially relating to MP instability but it's getting better. Also FPS can be appalling if your rig isn't great.

Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing

Don't hesitate, as Manuel said, you just need a stick (at least) and your love for the A10. Then the learning curve is nothing, the manual is well written, there's an interactive training really complete, and even if you feel lazy to do the rampstart or set the radio frequency for example, there's different options to decrease the difficulty and that way you can have a customized gameplay.

But when you start the Hog for the first time with simulation gameplay on, you get the smile for 3 days long...

About the bugs, it's a question of time and 2013 should be the good year...

Seriously if the game would have been at 10$ when I bought it... :surprise:then:cheer3nc:then:smoke:...

No restriction to buy it :D
