Congo_Toey Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 Hi Guys, Ive been on looking on these forums for a while in reference to if SLi works with DCS World or not, but cant seem to get a definitive answer. I would like know as I am now using triple ASUS VG278H 3D monitors with a ASUS GTX 680 DirectCU II TOP Graphics card. But would like to upgrade to a GTX 690 is I could be sure that it would work. This is because right now I have to run using 3D Vision but with a reduced resolution and graphics to get any sort of playable framerate. I would think that if SLi works with DCS world then I maybe able to run at full resolution and graphics. So can someone with an SLi setup please tell me if SLi works or not? Thanks
Vortex225 Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 (edited) I have two GTX 590s in quad-SLI configuration and I can report that it does work. However, SLI for DCS is not officially supported by Nvidia drivers. That is, it must be "forced" with the appropriate alternate frame rendering mode (AFR2). As an aside, I can't imagine your frame rates are great with only one GPU supporting three monitors. My two 590s have their hands full with my single 30" monitor (2560x1600). Better SLI support would improve performance, but this is unlikely to happen in the near future (if at all). Hope this helps. Edited December 31, 2012 by Echo225

Thanks very much, I get about 30fps at the moment which is playable, but it could be better, I am hoping that the 690 will improve that by at least 50%. Lets see then.
Vlerkies Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 (edited) Ditching my dual 6990 card for a single 680. Dual card (ati) performance is piss poor. Cant comment on Nvidia SLI other than to say that in my decision making process researching these forums the general consensus is that dual cards perform worse than single gpu units. What kind of performance gain you get over single GTX590? I'm in the process of getting a new dedicated flight sim machine and already decided to go with single HD 7970. However, if SLI actually works, I would rather go with single GTX670 with prospect of dual (maybe triple) SLI in the future.

danilop Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 (edited) Tripple monitors + Helios as a Accessory display. Will it work in full screen in above configuration? Edited December 31, 2012 by danilop
Quirkitized Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 I am un-sure. Hopefully somebody out there with gtx 670s, 680s or 690 could let us know. If you can do that, to keep full-screen performance while using helios on accessory display, I'd like to know too cause it would be great. 1
danilop Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 Yeah, it would be great - if not we have to wait for bigger touch screen monitors and run them in 3-way SLI without accessory display (good thing is that Windows 8 will speed up touch screen production) Thanx!

While I cannot give any direct statement on expected function, I would point out that if your mobo and PSU supports it, you'd be better off with a second 680. On one hand it will be a cheaper purchase, and on the other - you'll get better performance that way. 690's are basically underclocked 680 chips with SLI implemented on the same PCB. Two 680's are better than one 690, pretty much, as far as performance goes. danilop Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 It seems that 670 is right there with big Nvidia boys when SLId: http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/geforce_gtx_670_2_and_3way_sli_review,1.html Basically it is the same like 680 in SLI configuration with less noise and heat ...
