Sorry,if this has been asked before. Reading through combat air tactics in an F-15,it says always check the warning indicator above the RWR to see which missile is fired at you, before employing the proper CM. I don't see the 2 indicators for radar or heat lock.

Could you pls help me on how one finds out which missile is incoming, and how to judge its range nd direction from the RWR. Thank you.

The Eagles RWR only indicates actives. RWR indicates lock from fire control radar of the platform launching SARH and IR. MAWS will alert you to all missiles incoming including IR Missile guided by EOS.

RWR and MAWS will tell you all you need to know in regards to which CM to deploy. It's good practise to deploy both types of CM when inbound missile is guided by radar lock. Many Russian pilots try following up with an IR shot after AR/SARH.

For actives the closer the flashing M gets to the centre of the RWR the closer the missile is to you. The small cross hair in the centre of the RWR is your position on RWR. The RWR is relative in position to threats.

The RWR is a radar warning receiver and as such, it will only tell you that you're being fired at

or locked by a radar source, nothing more.It does not tell you what kind of missile has been fired at you. So is up to you according to the situation and threat to release one type of CM or both. You should know what kind of threat you are facing and put yourself always in the worst scenerario.

OTOH the MWS is a missile warning system that is not implemented in the f15c in FC3 but yes in the DCSA10 and is a passive system that detect the burning rocket engine of a missile fired near you. It could be a maverick launched by your wingman or even a missile fired at you, or fireworks from the 4th of july if you're flying low.

RWR does display active missiles by placing an m in a diamond.

The diamond symbol indicates a lock. The symbol inside the the diamond indicates the threat.
