I'm aware of my signature, but I'm still looking for a thread from long time ago that had a demeo track on how to set up an orbit so the TGP gets masked fo rthe least amount of time.

I've been trying 25k feet and <5 degrees of bank and a lot of locations relative to the target, but I'm not finding the best. Banking hard isn't successful for me either.

Does someone remember the thread or can tell me directly what the best alt, bank and relative position to the target area is so my TGP is masked as short as possible?

Note: I don't want to orbit around the target, but offset ffrom it.

Thanks!

The best way would be to perform a "bone"/race track orbit. This on obviously allows you to fly level for a while, any offset circle orbit will have a significant period of time where the TGP is masked, whereas in a race track the pod is onlyaskes for the duration of the turn (which in a 2g contract turn isn't very long).

Set your TGP to the point, bank 10 degrees and engage autopilot ALT hold (back most switch position). FROM 15 miles... ALTITUDE 10,000 feet.

Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.

The length of the tracks would then depend on 1) the safe terrain, 2) the visibility and 3) other flights, correct?

Correct. At low level leg length would be no more than 3 miles (30 seconds), at medium alt it could be longer.

An illustration to further explain the racetrack orbit.

As far as the cross turn at the end of each leg, it's a 2G (energy sustaining) level turn, with lead ALWAYS on the inside of the turn and two ALWAYS on the outside of the turn. Lead would initiate the turn by calling "cross" on the radio.

Only 1 flight member should be "heads down" at any one time, and IRL only lead would be searching for targets using either the TGP or Mk.1 eyeball. Two's job is simply to ensure he doesn't collide with lead, and maintain defensive lookout for the flight. If lead needs to get two's TGP etc on a target, it's simply a case of two hooking and slaving to lead's SPI or coordinates entered via the scratchpad, UFC and CDU repeater.
