ErichVon Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 (edited) Hi, My signature lists my current Alienware build I purchased about a year ago. I am considering a single GTX 590 card preferably a Nvidia GeForce one. Is this a good marriage with my current build? Dell wants $1,000 for one card that I think is a bit overpriced. Within the limitations of my machine, is there a better choice? I do not want to spend much more than $500 but I would consider more of an investment to extend the life of my machine and to keep in pace with using DCS World in the future and the probability of demanding a better machine as World evolves. With my current GT 545 cards in SLI, running DCS World or VNAO in FC2 or Superbug in FSX, my primary issue is stutter hesitation which I think is due to my 1 GB video ram limitation. Is there a utility I could use to input my hardware build variables that would recommend appropriate video card choices? Thanks for any help. Edited January 13, 2013 by ErichVon
pacotito Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 (edited) The 590 would still be an sli card as its 2 underclocked 580 chips. I would recommend getting a single 680 unless you are trying to stay with sli. If you want to stay with sli maybe 2 660ti's. For a little less money ypu could go with a 670 or a 660ti.Do you have liquid cooling on the gpus as well? If so you would have to get new waterblocks as well. agrasyuk Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 my vote is for gtx670 or 680 if it is within the budget Anton. My pit build thread . Simple and cheap UFC project
pacotito Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 After doing a little research I found this chart which puts the 545 at the same level as the 8800. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-performance-radeon-geforce,2997-7.html Even a single 660ti should outperform your two cards.
