Another nice Rafale video

I only can dream about similar sources for let's say F-15C. Thanks a lot!

There was only one Super Etendard in the first video linked, it was sitting on the bow of the carrier. There is one scene where it looks like a single-engine aircraft passing the camera aircraft, but its only because he's got just one burner lit. If you look closely and slow the video down, you'll see two engines. There's no way a Rafale could be mistaken for a Super Etendard, or vice versa. ;)

On the clip11f2 video ... the shots through the targeting pod in the middle of the clip - are those heights in ft? There are values like 16500 and 23000 in the bottom right of the display ... seems odd if the pod is French I would reckon they would be in m. Or are they something else?

Olgerd, you might find the following video interesting:

Du rêve à la réalité. It is an official video by the Armée de L'Air and has some short HUD shots in it. And it is also a pretty cool video :)

Thanks. I will watch it.

Ah, here we have an interesting question.

I think they ARE in feet . . . . while the French are of course very big on the metric system, you have to remember that the French are part of NATO ;)

I'm pretty sure it's a requirement for NATO aircraft to indicate speed and altitude in Imperial - this was the reason for Poland buying up Germany's MiG29G's, if you remember.

Thanks Brit, that would explain it ... but what about the HUD readouts ... I bet it drives the French pilots bonkers ... are they full NATO members ... I thought they semi-withdrew ... probably over something like this!

Having worked at a French company for many years, our friends across the Channel get very funny over things like that ... I would expect to see metric with feet in brackets on the HUD proposed for NATO or something ;)

Since the entire international aviation world uses the imperial system and those french pilots use feet and knots since they first flew a Cessna 152, I guess they would freak out to have to use the metrical system in an airplane.
