Boelie Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Hi, I have been looking around in the forum, though it is very hard to find anything with the search terms anti air. Me and some buddies are playing Black Shark since a few weeks and loving it. Just find 1 thing annoying, that is the approach to attack anti air defenses such as Roland and Linebackers. They have about the same range as the Vikhrs it seems, maybe even a bit more. so every time we want to attack a target they fire first. No matter if we come in high or very low. I'm wondering if you have any tips? Oh and they did have radar vehicles nearby, but i don't know if they communicate with those? Anxious for an answer on how to tackle this challenge.
karambiatos Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 rolands have the same range as a vikhr while linebackers are waay less, you can shoot your vikhr from 8 kilometers away with the launch authorization set to manual, which is well out side of the range of a line backer since it carries stingers. i have found that for the rolands you need speed and low altitude, lock him up, fire the missile, and then break while descending, so you go below 30m altitude, but remember to keep the shkval on target, with some practice it should be easy enough to accomplish consistently A 1000 flights, a 1000 crashes, perfect record. =&arrFilter_pf[gameversion]=&arrFilter_pf[filelang]=&arrFilter_pf[aircraft]=&arrFilter_DATE_CREATE_1_DAYS_TO_BACK=&sort_by_order=TIMESTAMP_X_DESC"] Check out my random mods and things
Boelie Posted January 21, 2013 Author Posted January 21, 2013 Thanks, though it does seem like a challenge to fire, break and keep your eye on the ball when engaging rolands. I didnt know about the manual fire option, I always use auto and thought this was the only way to properly fire a missile.

Could also stay at max range (of your vikhrs) and use terrain masking, pop up and shoot. My SOP is fly at low altitude with a SAM locked up fire then as soon as it hits dive turn hard and hit them from a different direction. Not sure if the insta-lock has been fixed, (EG: being tracked through mountains) but it seems as if there's actually a human type delay from when you attack and they start returning fire.
Erforce Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 Welcome to BS world ! A few tips from my experience : In case of SA-10 S300, fly under 20m. The tracking radar is quite dumb. In case of Patriots : Find cover, cause it's deadly. they're also a chance for your vikhr interception. (dunno, but they hit anti-radar missiles quite well) In case of low-med range SAMs, first, learn to know their range, then adapt and survive. You can fire vikhrs with success at 13km(and a little altitude). Aim yourself ! disable auto-lock clearance. You can fire vikhrs at full night too. same story, but change your lazer code selector to be a full 20sec illumination. You'll see a white moving dot with your nvg. aim and FIRE AT WILL, captain ! 1 TASK / ROLES acronyms guide Black Shark A.I. datalink guide illustrated (v1.2.4 Available on Wiki) DCS World Codex 1.1 : full units list (Speed/Weapons/Armor thickness/Threat zone/Weapon damage...) Boelie Posted January 22, 2013 Author Posted January 22, 2013 Thank you both for the information! Greatly appreciated. Though now I have 2 new questions, first what does SOP mean? Second, how the hell do you change your laser code selecter to a full 20 sec illumincation. This is completely new for me.

Jona33 Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 For larger SAM sites you can try rockets, their very easy to use after some practise, the main advantage is the ability to cover an area and if you plant a couple near unarmored targets like radars you're likely to hit them. (Plus firing 40 rockets in one burst looks bloody awesome :D) Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing
Erforce Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 Depending the SAM, but the tracking radar should always be your priority. Daniel_M 's showing the right switch for lazer illumination. The switch on the reight 'red circle" is the Auto/Manual fire selector too, you'll need manual enabled. :) TASK / ROLES acronyms guide Black Shark A.I. datalink guide illustrated (v1.2.4 Available on Wiki) DCS World Codex 1.1 : full units list (Speed/Weapons/Armor thickness/Threat zone/Weapon damage...) schroedi Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 For Roland, Sa-8 and Sa-15 use Kh-25MLs. they have more range.
Tekken Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 @Daniel M: The switch you're pointing at has no effect on the ATGM's. This laser illuminator is used for the Kh-25ML, the Kh-29L and laser guided bombs. seikdel Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 You can fire vikhrs at full night too. same story, but change your lazer code selector to be a full 20sec illumination. You'll see a white moving dot with your nvg. aim and FIRE AT WILL, captain ! That's actually the laser designator toggle switch, not the code selector (which actually doesn't do anything). As was mentioned, it's used for the Kh-25ML. Sadly, the Shark doesn't seem capable of buddy lasing for the Su-25T. Oh well, maybe in the future. The laser reset button next to it is also very useful. Use this to shut off the laser whenever you're done with it (esp. when using it to designate). This helps prevent laser burnout. To employ the Kh-25ML, first load them onto your outer pylons. Find your target and flip the switch to place the laser in designate mode. When you hit the lock button, the laser will start painting whatever you're pointing it at with the Shkval. Select your outer pylons and you'll see a missile reticle. As long as the chopper is pointed relatively towards the target, the missile should acquire your laser and the reticle will jump to the target. Then, when you're in range, fire. The laser will stay on when you fire. Note that as soon as you fire, the chopper will lean to one side pretty significantly, so be prepared to compensate (those missiles are heavy!) After the missile impacts, hit the laser designator reset button. If you're done with the Kh-25ML, flip the switch back to the default range finder setting. As was mentioned before, the Kh-25ML enjoys substantially greater range than the Vikhr, especially when launched from higher altitudes. My personal technique for hunting SAMs is to sit further back and higher up. If I have a definite area with known threats, I'll get up to 1000-3000m and sit back 10-12km out of reach. Then I can take my time and leisurely snipe SHORADs. This works great for Strelas, Linebackers and the like. If possible, have a buddy sit back a couple of klicks and watch for SAM launches. Note that this doesn't work if you have any radar-guided threats that reach out further.
Boelie Posted January 27, 2013 Author Posted January 27, 2013 Thank you all for the input. It's greatly helped decrease me getting shot down by anti air.
