msalama Posted August 19, 2013 Author Posted August 19, 2013 Erm... There's a couple of things. Firstly, I'm on a vacation so there's no way for me to check the mod against any new releases just now, plus secondly PLEASE use a mod manager such as jsgme when installing the files - makes your life much easier. Will get back to this when I'm home again in a couple of weeks, but meanwhile just try to make do please :) Ps. F**k all this Icrap. How do type with this s**t??? The DCS Mi-8MTV2. The best aviational BBW experience you could ever dream of.

JayPee Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Perhaps other users of msalama's files can shed some light here? Would be awesome. I'm in the process of tweaking but I'd like to know technical details on which file/line does what prior to blindly adding the whole fun package. I'm especially interested in msalama's tweaks to improve FPS without noticeably nerfing eye candy as I find low level flying already a bit MS Flight Simulatorish. Currently: 55 fps external, lights on 30 fps in-pit, lights on 20/25 fps in-pit, TGP on and/or flares deployed (this one needs attention) ... and flashing rooftops and flashing vehicle textures thru TGP On: i7 3610QM GT640M, 2GB, DDR3 840 basic series With: all HIGH water LOW civ OFF blur ON hdr NORMAL fsaa 4x tssaa OFF trees 1500 bushes 0 birds 100% Graphics.lua: draw distances reduced lodMult 1.5 lodAdd 100 No other tweaks yet. i7 4790K: 4.8GHz, 1.328V (manual) MSI GTX 970: 1,504MHz core, 1.250V, 8GHz memory

I have basically have the same frame rates as you. Tried all the tweaks here and didn't see an observable, measurable difference. Seems most of these tweaks are GPU related though. I'm 100% certain that I'm CPU bottlenecked. I can up my settings without significant affect on frame rates. I can overclock my CPU and see a slight difference (3.4 to 3.9ghz) but no difference from OC'ing my GPUs...I only go to unplayable frame rates <20fps during the unit-heavy missions, like the campaign missions. there's no fix or tweaking for that. My 2-3 year old CPU just won't cut it on this 2-3 year old sim. I really look forward to playing it at killer FPSs 10 years from now, though! Kind like I do with Falcon 4 and IL2 now......sad as that is. martinistripes Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 I noticed anisotropic filtering has noticeable performance hit if I set it in my GPU control panel. More so than switching anti-aliasing from 2x to 4x. In other games I've always seen the opposite, with AA having the biggest impact. Setting texture filtering quality between High quality, Standard and Performance made little difference though. Here's a question, does DCS apply any anisotropic filtering if I 'use application settings'? Valve Index | RTX 4080 (Mobile) | i9-14900HX @ 2.20 GHz | 32GB RAM

msalama Posted August 31, 2013 Author Posted August 31, 2013 (edited) OK, let me explain everything a bit further: 1) These tweaks are mostly GPU related, so they won't help much (or at all) if your CPU is too slow. 2) They mostly alter drawing distances and ingame effects. The latter is achieved by replacing current FX files with older versions from here and there (f.ex. LO demo & BS1). 3) You don't have to use ED's autoexec.cfg if you install my graphics.lua with JSGME, because you'll then overwrite the ED-provided graphics.lua anyway. 4) ED periodically alters these files by introducing new parameters and even sometimes completely changing their structure. Whenever this happens I'll have to make new versions for the package; this is something I always try to do ASAP and then upload the resulting files here. 5) Some of these tweaks are most likely obsolete by now. So why are they still included? Well, just because I'm a lazy sod and can't be arsed to check the package thoroughly ;) And that's all I can think of now - hope this clears things up a bit guys :) EDIT: file name change, was talking about graphics.cfg instead of autoexec.cfg. msalama Posted September 9, 2013 Author Posted September 9, 2013 Headsup: this mod is now obsolete, see post 1 for details. The DCS Mi-8MTV2. The best aviational BBW experience you could ever dream of.
JayPee Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 Obviously, setting related changes might have become obsolete. However, I assume the FX files are still usable, aren't they? i7 4790K: 4.8GHz, 1.328V (manual) MSI GTX 970: 1,504MHz core, 1.250V, 8GHz memory
msalama Posted September 11, 2013 Author Posted September 11, 2013 However, I assume the FX files are still usable, aren't they? No, I'm afraid it's specifically the FX files that are at fault here. Most of them are ancient and some even predate DCS, and it appears something profound has changed in the engine now making them cause more problems than they solve. Sorry, but such is life... The DCS Mi-8MTV2. The best aviational BBW experience you could ever dream of.
