I thought we'd get the Igla stacks too, actually...the answer was no.

You can campaign all you want for weapons that the real thing doesn't actually carry, you won't get them.

But no, I can't stop you from trying - just telling you what the decision was as I know it ;)

Rgr that, no prob. thanks for the heads up.

Heres last one then. No more research, will wait and enjoy anything that comes out from Ed.

The R-73 short-range, close-combat standardized missile was developed in the Vympel Machine Building Design Bureau, and became operational in 1984. The R-73 is included in the weapon complex of MiG-23MLD, MiG-29 and Su-27 fighters and their modifications and also of Mi-24, Mi-28 and Ka-50 helicopters.

Edit: "nah", I'm still going to research on it. Learning more as a go along on the Ka50, actualy is interesting reading. But will not bother Ed about it.

Thanks

PS: cant help myself, I like sharing these info.

Armament: 1x 2A42 30-mm cannon [250 HE-Frag + 250 AP]

2 - AT-16 VIKhR ATGM (6 each)

2 - 80-mm rockets (20 each)

2 - Twin 23-mm gun pods [940 rounds]

4 - 500-kg bombs

2 - AA-11/ARCHER AAM

With all the sources and links I provided. They cannot all be lies? No matter. I'm anxious to fly this bird virtualy.

Maybe, because it’s too classified and they might not be allowed to mimic the air to air feature of the Ka-50? Then again this is an assumption. I don’t like to assume stuff. It’s just a thought. Response not required on this.

Never the less. We are going to have fun, that’s for sure.

Thanks ED. Do keep up the good work.

End of thread.

Yes, it's a bad assumption.

As a matter of fact, IIRC a Russian Hind pilot informed them that they had tested R-60s on the Hind, but never operationally used them.

The Ka-50 has never even had any AA weapons mounted on it, not even for testing IIRC.

That is STRAIGHT from a Russian Hind pilot.

I don't see why they'd keep the capability secret - it isn't a terribly huge deal to equip the capability, they simply chose not to.

Don't worry about it ... in a lot of cases the internet sources were eventually proven wrong. Of course, in other cases they're right - it's just that they contain inaccuracies and well, how can you tell if they're right or they're wrong? ;)

Thankfully, there are people who are willing and able to share operational information.

As BritGliderPilot alluded to earlier about Rusarm, defense companies get very creative about what is available and that info gets onto websites and thus becomes "Fact/Truth".

This what defense contractor marketing departments say and really mean........

They said: "Feasability studies are complete and we are in pre-production"

They mean: "Two of our guys have talked about it by the water cooler...."

They said: "This product is in production "

They mean: "....and they figured out what colour to paint it"

They said: "This product is in post-production "

They mean: "We have sent someone out for a tin of green paint"

They said: "This product is off the shelf"

They mean: "We already have a tin of green paint"

They said: "This product is off the shelf but is easy to modify to your (winter) specifications"

They mean: "We already have a tin of green paint, we can buy a tin of white and charge you for both"

They said: "Our skilled team are ready to modify the product to your specifications"

They mean: "We have hired a guy who can paint, he has his own brush"

They said: "This product is easy to modify by the end user"

They mean: "We can sell you a 30,000 dollar paint brush"

Anyone want to explain this?

All nine Stinger missiles were successfully launched with no helicopter damage or safety problems. Eight of the missiles scored direct hits against simulated hovering helicopter targets in a clutter environment. The tests included various missile launch constraints with the Longbow helicopter in forward air speeds from hovering to 136 knots, slide slips up to 30 knots, partial power descents, pull-up manoeuvres, hovering petal turns, push-over manoeuvres, and a 22-degree bank.

What's there to explain? I know that Apaches were tested with Stinger stacks - but they didn't use them. AH-1W's use AIM-9's.

The Black Sharks are going to kill the Apaches in the game... btw, are any upgrades being made for the AI choppers in the game, 3D model and damage model and so on? Because now they're pretty bad.

Haha, what was there to use them on? Do you not think if the U.S. got into a war (after 2000) with China or Iran that Apache-Ds would be carrying Stinger ATALs?

AH-1Ws never used AIM-9s either - I don't even think they were carried in actual combat. Carrying the AIM-9 on one stub wing ensures that nothing else can be loaded on that wing.

D-Scythe, I hear from Fudd on this forum who worked on LHA's that AH-1W's were equipped with AIM-9's for their flights ;)

Combat flights?

Perhaps the better question would be whether Longbow pilots train air-to-air with Stingers like Cobra pilots do with AIM-9s.
