Thanks mate for this, will this help me learn how to play the game or will it help me with the gamepad and learning to use and fly with it?

With all respect Sir,..this is no game, its a simulator...its not meant to be flown with keyboard or game pad.

You will never have full control over it or fly like the people in the videos you've seen if you don't get yourself at least a 20 bucks flight stick.

If you really wanna fly this sim you won't regret it for sure.

Mate, I perfectly understand this is a Combat Flight Simulator, even though I have just started playing this with a Gamepad, I have been playing this for a few weeks and it's not like I just picked this up yesterday :)

controller axis conflict

+1 And you may have to adjust your dead zone as well. You have to keep in mind that the distance your gamepad stick moves is far less than an actual joystick so it's going to be harder to use initially until you've practiced with it. Play with the settings, and learn to fly with a soft touch. The tutorials will most likely do both of what you've asked. You get time in the air so that's going to give you more time to adjust to the gamepad, but it also teaches you all of the basics (and I do mean basics) of how to get things done.

And you'll almost definitely have to do each tutorial multiple times until everything has sunk in. The good thing is: As you invest more time in learning, you will actually SEE visible improvements and you will get better. And that's an amazing feeling when you look back and remember when you first started, you couldn't even figure out how to turn your gun on or start a single engine.

Wait, so why is this causing my throttle to go down? Everytime I move the mini joysticks on the gamepad it automatically pulls the throttle nearly fully down. When I go into controls throttle both up and throttle both down do not have an assigned key for the Gamepad. So how do I fix "controller axis conflict",

Also thanks for the info on the Tutorials MadCow, I have downloaded them and I am going to start them now :D

Thanks heaps for the help guys, really appreciate it :)

EDIT: Hang on, should I be playing this through DCS World? I am running DCS A-10 through steam and I have a plain vanilla install with no additional content such as DCS World.

through the options gui. see if there are any axis assigned to the throttle, rather than key strokes. the sim may have recognised axis and auto assigned them

alternatively, are you using an axis (L stick ,r stick) for the throttles? if so perhaps it needs inverting

You're flying an old version then. It's not bad per se, but there have been quite a few improvements since then.

You can use the key from your steam version with the current version however.

Just get DCS World and the A-10C module, both version 1.2.2 at the moment. Preferably use the torrent to avoid corrupted downloads.

Install World and then the module and you're done updating. You can leave the old steam version installed if you like or remove it to save disk space, it's independent.
