junae Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 hi there! I'm getting a really bad time trying to refuel the SU33... as soon as I get into the basket I disconnect... Is there a way to use the auto pilot after connect? What's your tips for a beginner hehe!! Thanks guys!!!! =FN= Six o'Clock Member of Falcões da Noite Squadron Florianopolis :: Brazil
Invicta Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 Once you know the tankers exact altitude, go 5 meters below that and alt-hold. Then slowly (!!!) close. Make very small throttle movements. Here's a screenshot from one of my hardest refuels: Good luck!
junae Posted December 1, 2005 Author Posted December 1, 2005 Ugghhhh!!! That's what I call a hard time to refuel, hehe!!! Thanks for the info invicta! I'll try that at home. :) See ya mate Ahh, what you do to keep the same speed as the tanker? You use "J"? =FN= Six o'Clock Member of Falcões da Noite Squadron Florianopolis :: Brazil
S77th-konkussion Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 Yep- you'll still have to control the throttle & make minor adjustments to account for the speed fluctuations of the tanker. Steering too- Especially when there's 3 of ya hooked up at once. [sIGPIC]http://forums.eagle.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=43337&d=1287169113[/sIGPIC]
junae Posted December 1, 2005 Author Posted December 1, 2005 And what's the maximum difference in speeds so that you don't disconnect from tanker? I mean, in real life the hose can "pull" the SU33 or the pilot has to keep the SAME speed all the time? To me this sounds a little weird, since it's very hard to ensure you'll allways fly at the very same speed... =FN= Six o'Clock Member of Falcões da Noite Squadron Florianopolis :: Brazil
Invicta Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 You fly into the basked, pushing it towards the tanker. Because the hose is flexible it will bend and give you a couple of meters to work with. The trick is not to get too close to the tanker (you'll hit it and both go down as burning wrecks) and not get too far away. Doing this requires you to constantly 'play' with the throttle. What I try to do is, once I'm connected, pick part of the tanker, and try to keep it at the same position relative to the HUD or any other part of the cockpit. E.g. In the above screenshot, if I wanted to keep this possition behind the tanker, I would try to keep the most-left engine of the tanker behind the AoA indexer.
junae Posted December 1, 2005 Author Posted December 1, 2005 Humm... I copied!! Hehe, can't wait to try your tips now... i think it's going to be a bit easier now! Thanks again dude, it's nice to know there's cool people here that really help you out! :) =FN= Six o'Clock Member of Falcões da Noite Squadron Florianopolis :: Brazil
anivanov Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 and i have some problems with 33refueling.i cant connect!!!
anivanov Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 constantly im trying lock the basket, and when im there i cant connect.or i am to far?
S77th-konkussion Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 Practice! Of course- there is no "play" with regard to difference in speed- If your going 1 kph slower than the tanker- you will eventually stretch & subsequently disconnect the hose. So like he said- push the hose inwards, and back off, push in & back off. Keep in mind im talkin' SMALL movements here. Bottom line you still have to fly the aircraft- no more AP script like in 1.02 [sIGPIC]http://forums.eagle.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=43337&d=1287169113[/sIGPIC]
diveplane Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 as off course they would never ever refuel in the thick stormy soup, tanker would climb above the bad conditions, however makes a good practice training mission, but in unrealistic terms, best way to practice is at night , however lock on does not model external refuel lights on the su33 ,to gas up in the dark to see the chute..... https://www.youtube.com/user/diveplane11 DCS Audio Modding.
bSr.LCsta Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 Here is something a wrote a while ago... check the bold paragraph Hey all, I had posted this response on the UBI forums to somone needing help with refueling so I figured I would put it here in case anyone needed help. ;) Lets say the Tanker is flying at 7000m and 450k airspeed.... As you approach 1-2km from the tanker: 1. Extend the refueling probe, and select your basket (1-Left, 2-Center, 3-Right) Note: Center basket is slightly lower than side baskets 2. Set your Altitude Hold at 6995 (your HUD will go from 6990 to 7000 so you must estimate the 6995) *PRIOR TO setting Altitude Hold adjust your vertical trim pitch for level flight. This is done so when you are near the basket and need to disengage Altitude Hold to make a minor adjustment you wont pitch wildly up or down. 3. Control your speed! Once you are 0.2-0.1km from the basket your speed should be about 455kph. Engage Speed Hold at this speed and bring throttle to idle. Continue to 0.0km from the basket and then reduce speed by disengaging Speed Hold to 452kph, then re-engage Speed Hold. v1.02-Continue at 452kph and line the probe up to the basket. Once you make contact, Auotpilot takes over and you can just hang out and watch your fuel gauge. v1.1-Just before contact you need to be as close to SAME speed as tanker as possible (450.1kph is ideal) The reason is the once contact is made Speed Hold is engaged at that current speed. *If you end up making contact going to fast, you need to retract the nozzle and tap Speed hold off and back on again, the re-extend the nozzle Now you need to keep an eye on your distance from the tanker (chances are you will be going slightly faster), and keep your wings level. 4. Once you are fueled up retract your nozzle and disengage your Speed Hold. Hope that helps someone p.s. Adding wind and turbulance makes for a good challenge http://www.teambsr.com/ BSR{L()Csta> Old School GR Squad Senior Squad Leader is this ok?
junae Posted December 2, 2005 Author Posted December 2, 2005 Wow!!! I did it! ;) It worked here guys, all your tips made it happen! Now I believe: it's possible to fill the SU33's tank in the air. In my first attempt I already connected and stayed there for the entire filling... hehe Now I'm going to bed, I'll dream with that all night long... woooohooooo!!!!!!!!!! =FN= Six o'Clock Member of Falcões da Noite Squadron Florianopolis :: Brazil
