I recommend processor with the highest possible clock frequency for maximum comfort in the game. I'm sorry for my English :D

You probably want a K-series processor in both cases. Otherwise you are locked out from overclocking.

i7-3770K is better, but which one is the better upgrade might depend on the prices you are getting.

Note also that i5 series will probably afford you good savings with little-to-no loss of simulator performance. (It'll cost for things like video encoding, but that's pretty much it.)

INTEL CORE I7-2700K

or

INTEL CORE I7-3770

None of them. I would pick i5-3570K.

1. cheeper then those two,

2. "ivy-bridge" (22nm, 77W TDP, DDR3-1600),

3. hyperthreading for flight-sim is useless.

To answer your question:

Here you go!

:)

I5-3570K is usually recommended for high(ish) end gaming ATM; it's more than enough for any game now and especially for DCS which is poorly optimized for multi core / thread computing. If you do something serious beside gaming (and you stated that it's only for flying) like photoshop, 3D rendering, CAD or AV editing, than go for i7, otherwise it's overkill. One exotic gaming application where you sort of "need" I7 sandy bridge (E) power, would be three or four way SLI (crossfire) system where you want 2011 (x79) motherboard for it's memory / PCIe bandwidth to avoid micro stutters.

For DCS, beeing non multi core / thread app, CPU clock is everything as stated in the second post. I would go with great overcklocker motherboard, top cooling solution (NH-D14 minimum, water preferred) and i5-3570K.

Since you are upgrading your Motherboard, my suggestion would be buy the BEST mothernoard you can afford, One of the "K" model processors. and as much RAM as the MB will accept. This will give you a good stable machine. Down the road, you upgrade just your processor and move the "K" processor to an inexpensive board and use it for a server, second PC, give it to your mom...whatever. Put the extra money into a 256 Bit video card.

Two good sources for questions like these are Maximumpc.com and Tomshardware.com. Both have good cost vs gain comparisons for upgrading.
