Bexx0r Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Hi Folks! Like many other users of SST for X52, I also have some strange glitches with it during gameplay. I use the JackBauer profile, which basically, only sets up two functions in SST (Airbrakes and ministick for HOTAS slewing). My problem is that during gameplay at some point, the LEDs are suddenly flickering, then go dark and the stick loses the profile, so that I cannot use airbrakes and ministick, anymore. Whenever this happens, I even get a weak electric shock in my finger through the trigger... Sounds crazy, but is true. I browsed many threads about it and tried most suggestions like, e.g. reducing digits of the command names to under 16 chars, plugged the stick directly to the motherboard-usb, avoiding USB 3.0. None of it helped. EDIT: I also installed the drivers and software in correct order, also plugging in the stick after install, not before. Now I am fed up with it and I would like to abandon this crappy SST-Junk. So, I will have to bind airbrakes and ministick to the stick in the game options. For this, I would like to ask all of you who use their X52 without SST to post how you bind those keys ingame. Already tried to bind the ministick, but this won't work, because it acts like a mouse in the options menu. Many thanks in advance for your suggestions! Cheers! soupyc Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Uh...getting shocked through your stick is NOT a software problem. You need to contact Saitek and get it replaced if its under warranty, or something along those lines. I hate SST, too, but your equipment shocking you is, again, NOT a software problem. I would imagine the stick losing its profile and flickering LEDs also has nothing to do with the profile software itself, perhaps the driver, but not likely SST. Bexx0r Posted March 7, 2013 Author Posted March 7, 2013 Hi Soupyc, thanks for your reply. Actually, I am not sure what to think about that, anymore. The fact that a lot of ppl have that flickering, followed by a profile loss, and blame it on the software, let's me think, well...it's the software. Getting tiny electric shocks when this happens surely speaks another language and let's me suspect that it's the hardware. When this happens, I also get the typical windows-sound when an usb-device is disconnected. So, maybe this is all about the usb connection. I am currently running it on my laptop. Maybe it has not enough power, causing the stick to bail out from time to time? However, I will firstly try to run this thing without SST in order to rule that one out. If it still happens, maybe I should try a powered usb-hub? Warranty unfortunately is no option. I will still be grateful for good hints of how you all mapped the airbrakes and ministick outside of SST. Thanks a lot! Cheers! Bexx0r ......................................................... MauganRa84 Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 Dude, I have the same issue with my X52pro where the lights flicker and the stick loses its calibration. Really pisses me up the wall. At first I thought that it was only happening when I would be holding down the pinkie on the occasion, because I have it set as a shift modifier.... but now it's looking more like it is some kind of short taking place inside the stick. Like a sus wire or something. I've checked it out but couldn't find anything so I'm basically just living with it at the moment. =@ It just sucks major nutsack when you're in an online dogfight and the stick shits itself. ...Sheila rides on crashing nightingale. Mr_Burns Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 I gave up SST long ago, found there were enough controlls with using just the pinky as a modifier, suppose thats because I never use the mic switch and more recently have have a trackir so no need to use the POV.
Bexx0r Posted March 8, 2013 Author Posted March 8, 2013 (edited) Yesterday, I just flew without SST and had no problems, but it was only half an hour. I will have to fly more in order to be sure. Then I flew again with SST and after not even 5 minutes it bailed out, again. And then a suspicion arose. Maybe it has to do with humidity. Yesterday, don't ask why, I had quite sweaty hands. Maybe when the trigger gets moist, is then pressed and transports it into the casing, some kind of short happens? But on the other hand, it should also start to flicker when running without SST, right? Short is short. Next tryout will be with gloves, haha! @ Mr. Burns: Would you be willing to share your mappings with me? Thanks a lot! Cheers! Bexx0r -------------------------------- EDIT: I am especially interested in how to map the Throttle buttons that emulate mouse functions (ministick, mouse button, boat switch), because I cannot do this in the game. Is there a solution to do it without SST? Edited March 8, 2013 by Bexx0r ......................................................... Bearcat Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 Try to make sure there are no default functions mapped that you are not aware of. I have been using SST since the X-45 days and have had no problems at all with it other than some of it's functional limitations which are easy to work around given my stick config. Flickering lights and loss of profile sounds like either a connector somewhere on the stick is not making full contact or it could be a USB issue. Bexx0r Posted March 14, 2013 Author Posted March 14, 2013 Ooookay, I had a bit time to test some more. My humidity suspicion proved wrong, because also with gloves (haha, yes I did that!) the stick went crazy. Furthermore, I hooked it into a powered usb-hub, and I had a slightly other result. It began to flicker and then the MFD went dark, but it did not lose the profile. Weel, at least for another half hour. Then the MFD came back on without the profile. Totally strange... .........................................................
