GodsPrototype Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 I have had this problem ever since I owned DCS: World. I bought the A-10C and FC3 during the winter holiday sale and i bought the P-51D and Blackshark 2 during the Spring sale. Everytime I go to the server list, it looks normal, just a list of servers. However, when I exit or re-enter DCS, by pressing exit and going back to multiplayer, the server list is empty. Sometimes I want to go into my options to change something, and when I come back, the list is empty. It happens everytime. Then I have to close DCS, wait for 5 - 10 minutes, start DCS again and the server list will be there again. What is wrong? Am I the only one with this problem? Is there a way to fix it? I opened port 10308 for when I am hosting a server, but I don't think it uses that port when playing, am I right? Thanks in advance! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Blooze Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 I couldn't reproduce the problem but try using ALT+TAB to exit to desktop instead. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
GodsPrototype Posted April 5, 2013 Author Posted April 5, 2013 I couldn't reproduce the problem but try using ALT+TAB to exit to desktop instead. I don't understand. I use ALT+TAB to go to my web browser and other programs, but I have to quit multiplayer to go to the settings of DCS. I think you misunderstood my problem. Basically, the server list is empty when reloading or refreshing it. It has nothing to do with going to my desktop and back. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
nomdeplume Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 If you stay within the multiplayer browser (when it's working and showing servers) and hit refresh, does that work? It's definitely not a common problem, I can restart it multiple times in a row and always get the server list after logging in. Does the login work fine for you? I'd suspect a firewall or antivirus program is interfering somehow - having to wait 5-10 minutes suggests some stateful connection monitoring that's getting confused and needs the old entry to time out before it permits additional traffic. See if you can add an exception to allow DCS to do whatever it wants (executable is ...\bin\DCS.exe) or temporarily disable any firewall or a/v you might have to see if it is causing the problem (and then re-enable it and work out how to actually fix it).

The "New Search" button empties the list pretty much. It isn't a new problem to me. I have had this problem with FSX servers as well. First time starting it in the day would give me a normal looking list. If FSX crashed or I logged out, then logged back in, the server list would be empty. Logging in works. I don't encounter any errors or problems. All DCS.exe's are added to the firewall and checked boxes are under Home/Work and Public. Includes Launcher, updater, update_apply and DCS exe's. Still not success. Port forwarding works, I checked if the port 10308 was open through a website, and it was. When I closed it again, it said it was closed. I have a Sitecom router, I am connected through a ethernet cable to my router which is then connected to my modem. I have a static IP. DMZ is on, but not for my computer only for my brother's xbox, my computer's IP is not in the DMZ because I prefer opening ports. (I am mentioning this because I know Steam doesn't work when DMZ is enabled). uPnP is enabled. We have mac address filtering enabled, plus a wireless password, WPA(TKIP). My anti-virus scanner is Microsoft Security Essentials. That is all. Thanks for your help! (PS. Network speed in DCS is selected to LAN and the sources is put to Internet.) GodsPrototype Posted April 10, 2013 Author Posted April 10, 2013 Oh and I tried to file a ticket to ED, but no one responded. I sent them a ticket on the 5th of April, and they said they would respond within 48 hours. I was patient, even after the 48 hours, but it has been 5 days now. Still no response. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
ENO Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 I have a Sitecom router, I am connected through a ethernet cable to my router which is then connected to my modem. Just to confirm here- is your Sitecom router acting as a router or is it just an interface between your wall connection and your service router? If you've got two routers acting as routers, things can get tricky as you try to set up the pathways from your computer out to the wall. You may be MILES ahead of me here- I'm just trying to figure out if you're having the same issue I did. "ENO" Type in anger and you will make the greatest post you will ever regret. When I go to my router settings, its the sitecom router. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
ENO Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 I'm fishing a bit but can you go into multiplayer as far as you can, then back out and see if it creates a log- one of these times it doesn't load server names? It may not write to the log... But if it does maybe it'll tell us something? "ENO" Type in anger and you will make the greatest post you will ever regret. "Sweetest's" Military Aviation Art
GodsPrototype Posted April 18, 2013 Author Posted April 18, 2013 (edited) I got a response on my ticket. This was the reply: "Your description makes sense - it is possible that your router forwards the port to the process directly, especially if it is a software firewall, and when you then switch back to menu and then return to the multiplayer screen, the DCS.exe gets a new PID (process ID). It is possible that the firewall or router then gets confused because it is trying to send everything on that port to the old PID. The solution in this case would be in the firewall or router configuration, but how to do this will depend on the manufacturer of this equipment or software. Most likely this hypothesis can be tested through running without this equipment (for example, if you have a cell phone with internet connection that supports tethering)." I tried the cell phone tethering, and indeed the problem did not occur. I just don't know how to do whatever the support mentioned. The stuff with the PID. Any help? I have a Sitecom router.
