Hi everyone,

I am very inexperienced with the DCS Black Shark sim but so far like it a lot. I have gone through the tutorials for targeting ground targets but so far have not been able to take out my first one. I am playing the old version of Black Shark (not Black Shark 2) which I installed from a CD and I have been trying to target ground vehicles in the ''Battle'' mission in Single Player with no success. I have been following my notes from the tutorials on the Black Shark's weapon systems closely but can't seem to get ''TA NA' onto the HUD when I am trying to take out a tank. I got TA onto the HUD and the central TV but that is all. When I pressed the fire button on my keyboard (RALT+Space) the missile did not hit the tank I was trying to target but hit elsewhere. I made sure that the Master Arm was on, that I pressed 'Y' to set the Outside-Inside hard point select switch to Outside as it said to in the tutorial and the PUI display showed the selected weapon and remaining missiles etc. The 'Ground Moving Target' button was on as was 'Automatic Turn to Target'. I pressed 'H' to bring up the helmet mounted sight then held 'O' to bring up the 'Processing Complete' two concentric circles and cross in the vicinity of the tanks. I then put the 'box' on the central TV screen over a tank and changed the size of the box to fit the tank properly. I held down 'Enter' (Auto Lock) while keeping the tank in the box and then released 'Enter'. This is now where the problem is. The tutorial says that then 'TA' should appear on the central TV and that 'TA NA' should appear on the HUD. 'TA' appears on the central TV screen but only 'TA' appears on the HUD instead of 'TA NA'. When I try to fire a missile it does not fire at the tank but elsewhere. If someone could please tell me what I am doing wrong it would really be appreciated.

Thanks very much in advance.

Please watch these video first and try to do what say the video. You should map your Joystick as best as possible, or know the most important key controls.

http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/video/bs2-training/

1- Master arms on: AltL+W

2- Laser on: ShiftR+O

3- External stations ( external pylons ): Y

4- Automatic turn to the target: Q

5- moving ground target: N

6- Helmet mounted system: H

Then Search and lock the target, the reticle should be as little as possible.

7- Ground stabilized: O

8- Lock the target: Enter

Move the nose of the Heli till you center the big circle of the HUD with the target locked. After you launch you cant do a hard move.

Training and training. It is easy man!

Hi, Sim Player.

From your post, it really seems that you forgot to switch your laser rangefinder on. It's the big switch in the lower right corner of the targeting panel (where the Ground moving target, HMS and other switches are located).

Without it, your targeting system can't know the exact distance of the target, and also your Vikhrs can't follow the laser beam towards it.
