You probably know by now, 4 months later, since you have your server up, it is easy to fix and give both starting aircraft more separation. My 1st edit of this type was less than 10 minutes. I edited the P-51D vs FW-190D9 Instant Action .miz to the Bf-109E. Next I took my mouse and elongated the aircraft pathways on the map in the editor to be parallel and out a few miles. Done. "Save As" using a different name. You can test the mission in the editor and fly it just as if you went to Instant Action. I put mine in My Missions.

The current Update 1.2.6.18933 that 109 seems formidable. He fired just 4 cannon rounds in my engine, at a head-on angles attack and killed it, then it blew up!

Love it.

Yes that is true, It is very easy for one to create a custom mission to "fix" that scenario. I've created plenty and continue to do so. My point was that I had hoped the Instant Action scenario would have been created with a little more forethought. Not everyone is comfortable with creating missions, even simple ones, and personally I don't think they should have to. Along with that I believe it does a disservice to the sim. I would assume the Instant action missions are mostly for newcomers to the P-51D. Why put them in a situation that is a challenge for veteran pilots? Of course it's possible to trim your plane, adjust and activate your gunsite, etc while spotting and tracking the enemy, avoiding his attack and beginning a vigorous engagement BUT this is far from ideal. I didn't even mention the fuel load which makes the P-51D feel very unstable to some as they are introduced to the '51. First impressions are very important...not sure we are in a position to scare away too many potential pilots.

AHA!

That explains it then....

Why my stang bucks around like mad at the slightest pitch up when playing the P-51D vs FW-190 SP mission yet it doesn't when I play on the VA server for example despite my SIM and Game stick curves and settings all being identicle....

Do you know, I've been trying to rack my brain as to why it's more sensitive in the FW-190 scenario and I think you've just nailed it for me.

Damn thing bucks around like a cow at a rodeo at the moment and tips over depsite being well beyond stall speed.... Need to open up the MIZ and take a look.

re: Fuel Load

Yeah, I noticed P-51 has too much fuel. That, too, should be able to be edited. 25% is plenty. If flight is long I take 25% and drop tanks if I suspect a duel, figure I will die anyway; why worry about RTB?

I have been playing mostly in Single Player, tweaking my aircraft without the added issue of lag. Adjusted my curves, added dead zone so I can trim her better, practice with the AI and will eventually set the AI to maximum performance, before playing in MP. And trying to get used to using my TrackIR 5 I have had a couple years, I never liked it. I use my Pro Throttle's 8-way HAT for views, still. Just found a useful TIR5 profile in the DCS User Files I am experimenting with.

I did join the Anon6 guys. Played ArmA3 with them last weekend.

Yeah, the developers have a lot on their plate, so, who knows about how they think or why. What PO's me the most, is, I make a profile that is scripted for my CH gear, then an Update occurs and they change key keyboard assignments---screws up the works.

My next step is spending more time in the Mission Editor and reverse engineer some of the already made missions and mod them, then create my own.

I played with the Ka-50 for a year and passed the flight entrance exam to fly with the 159th. I taught myself. But P-51 is more fun. The coming WWII thingy is gonna' be fun!

re: Merlin---Message #26

Why I quit flying the P-51 in beta, nobody wanted to dogfight.

It was the new kid on the block. Everybody that was kind of interested played for 2 weeks and were gone. Flying the P-51 in an environment of planes and ground vehicles with missiles is just plain crazy. Panzertard had a good server up and he was a good WWII sim fighter pilot, but I have not seen him around in awhile.

Even still, only a handful of people here to DCS want to dogfight WWII aircraft. I played Aces High, except wee hours NY time zone, there were always at least a hundred guys on, prime time---several hundred. Wee hours I played with the Australian and New Zealand guys. But they did run 30 second short ads on The Military Channel, cable TV, to let potential customers know they were there.

I agree, don't scare potential customers away.

The guys, customers, I talked to at Aces High about flying the "real" P-51D in DCS, they did not want to work that hard! I quit Aces High for DCS. But I just got interested in ArmA 3 infantry, so they have lots of people to play with.

The tanking in Aces High is the best I have tried. The guys that tank, rarely fly the aircraft.

Yup, changing the fuel loadout to 25% in the FW-190 Vs mission is a MASSIVE improvement to handling.

Dora never got on my tail once and consequently never got to fire a single round... The little blighter still outflew me so I couldn't get a decent solution on him though. Went through two stangs trying LOL..

On the second attempt he was practically landing so I got a few rounds into him before overshooting right into him... Bent up ma prop but destroyed him.. Still managed to fail the emergency landing and crashed but it is an improvement that he never once got behind me thanks to tipping from unbalanced fuel weight all the while. :D
