Lobo1606688273 Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 So, I was testing 1.2.4's silent radar mode in SP. I set up a F16Cblk52 SEAD with AGM-88s and went first person with a SA-15. I switched off the radar, waited for the F-16 to get close and... found myself hit by a HARM.... Is this silent radar thing only working in MP?
Grimes Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 Did it fire before you turned the radar off? If so, the missile does guide in to approximately the last known location of the radar. Kaktus29 Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 i guess a precaution can be taken and after you go silent move your SAM to another position just to be sure to have a new-stealthy position. never use your radar and then turning it off while still being in the same position. once you give away your position its over..
WildBillKelsoe Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 Sounds like behind enemy lines, only they spotted and actively engaged the traing suit Niko Bellik looking guy first. schroedi Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 I tested it too, I was constantly moving one time with Radar enabled the other time disabled. There is absolutley no difference, the HARM knows where you are.
RagnarDa Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 My experiments a while back (maybe 1.2.1) showed that ARMs did in fact strike the last position that the radar was emitting from. The missiles where OTOH unrealistically accurate... DCS AJS37 HACKERMAN There will always be bugs. If everything is a priority nothing is.
Lobo1606688273 Posted May 3, 2013 Author Posted May 3, 2013 Did it fire before you turned the radar off? If so, the missile does guide in to approximately the last known location of the radar. Nope, I switched the radar off at least 5 minutes before the shot.
Lobo1606688273 Posted May 3, 2013 Author Posted May 3, 2013 And just gave it another try. The AI F16 will shoot no matter what. Even if I move after firing the HARM still homes on the unit and not last position or whatever (will normally miss by a few meter though). If all of this still doesn't work the AI F16 pilot will use his 20/1 eyesight and locate and strafe the unit.
Grimes Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 I was able to re-produce the bug in the current release, but was unable to re-produce on the testing version. So hopefully it might have been fixed, but it hasn't been patched yet. Alternatively I do believe that setting the alarm state of the group via F10 view does actually turn the radar off for the purpose of AI not launching accurate ARMS at it.
