Yurgon Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Both the F-15 and the F-18 have been developed by McDonnell Douglas. I believe Sierra99 was referring to the YF-17 having been developed by Northrop. McDonnell Douglas played an important role in the development of the F/A-18, but depending on the point of view it was not (entirely) developed by them.
Lucas_From_Hell Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 For the Hornet crew, a little confirmation that there is a DCS:F/A-18C coming, straight from an official source: Currently the team is focused on completing Flaming Cliffs 3 and continued updates and improvements to DCS World. Once Flaming Cliffs 3 is complete, more of our focus will shift to upcoming DCS titles like the F-15C, F/A-18C and Fw-190D9. Looking further out, Eagle Dynamics and our partners plan a large number of new modules that include the Su-27SM, F-86F, MiG-15Bis, MiG-21Bis, Hawk, Mi-8, Mi-24, OH-58 and AH-1G, to just name a few. As a sidenote, Su-27SM after all! :D And funny that the Hornet, Eagle and Dora were announced before the Su-27, maybe we'll have some neat surprises (worth noting, however, that Wags' update about the Su-27 and F-15 is more recent, but nonetheless, interesting news :)) Here's the link to Groove's full post: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1703222&postcount=1 I really recommend everyone to go through all threads started by Groove, Wags, EvilBivol-1 and other people involved directly or not with the development (including Test Team members, often). Some threads just need you to read it twice to find what we're looking for.

Some threads just need you to read it twice to find what we're looking for. Its that exact post (and the video that preceded it) that led me to post this. I made the same assumption you made - that the FA18 and F15 were 'imminent'. Of course the most recent post may imply that the FA18 may be sliding right (hope this isn't the case as I am desperate for a HiFi multi role).
Lucas_From_Hell Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 I'm willing to guess they'll put out the F-15C and the Su-27SM first, obviously. Then maybe the Fw-190D9 since it's simpler, and to have something to fly against the Mustang. And then Hornet time :D About the Su-27SM: in addition to the R-77, it is capable of carrying TV and laser guided bombs (KAB-500KR and KAB-500L), Kh-29 variants, Kh-31 and the Kh-35. In other words, it's a pretty capable multi-role fighter now (and with a sexy glass cockpit :D)

Back to the one that got ED started!
Alfa Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 (edited) You have just convinced me, since a lot of work is done on the Su-27 already.. The external model and basic "cavety" of the cockpit is the same, but practically everything inside it(cockpit) is different though. .... and that the ground radar would not have to be modelled The Su-27SM has an upgraded version of the N001 radar, which has air-to-surface modes(how else would it be able to deploy the Kh-35), so it would have to be modelled. Another matter is the new RWR("Pastel" which controls Kh-31P), which is totally different to the SPO-15 and difficult to find any information on. Then there is the new OLS with TV channel and the whole information display layout on those new LCDs... So I don't know - at least its not as simple a modification as you make it sound :) Edited May 8, 2013 by Alfa JJ
