Have tried off an on since A10c beta to host but, as far as I can tell everything is set right. Running off a cbl modem so not sure about ports for that or not. Anyways have Norton managing my firewall an it's set to allow. Not really sure what else to do.

Host set to internet..check

Firewall set to allow DCS...check

ports....???

Maybe s1 can run thru what they do to set up there computer properly might help:music_whistling:

Tried searching an one thread i got a lil info seemed to get overrun with flaming so left it.

Looking at Norton firewall manager ann see what appears to be alot of inbound/outbound default set to block. But not sure which one manages the one to allow mp hosting.

Any help/advice would be much apprciated, thanx.

for starters, just close norton entirely and try to host.

If it works you need to be looking at some sort of norton setting.

If it doesn't then you know norton is not causing the problem but something else is.

Ok tried it with disabling auto protect an smart firewall disabled on Norton=nogo. Submitted a ticket to support http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/support/21930 but no response an have nvr gotten a response from support on previous request. I have a cable modem that came with cbl internet i got awhile back. I dunno if the IP address they gave me to a control panel if theres somthing in there i need to unlock or if I need to open somthing on my computer. Any help would be really great as I like to host games etc but have nvr been able to for any on DCS World. Thanx,

Kirk

If Norton firewall is disabled then go to control panel/windows firewall and be sure that DCS has been allowed in windows firewall as well. I am using MS Security Essentials for virus protection and all I had to do to host a mission was allow DCS in my windows firewall settings. I have cable modem and no routers or hubs.

Ok will try again tomorrow(too late now). Think windows firewall it was set to allow DCS World as that was one of the first things I checked an saw that Norton managed it. I might even uninstall Norton an re-install MS E's as I had that b4, an than try again an dbl check eveything. Will post results tomorrow. Thanx again.

You'll need to look on your router- that IP they gave you is probably on there. There should also be an "admin password" on it-

The IP will be 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 or something like that. You'll need to be connected to the network provided by that router for it to log in to that router. Once you are there, you will see an interface that likely has various tabs and one of them will probable be "applications and gaming" or "gaming" or "port forwarding."

Next, the port forwarding will depend on what IP has been assigned to your computer. Right click on your network icon in the task bar, then click open network and sharing center. Then from there you will see "access type: Internet... Connections "Local Area Connection." Click on Local Area Connection and then click on details. That will show you the IP address assigned to your computer.

Once you have that information you can go into the port forwarding / gaming- applications interface on your router and enter the information.

The port or port range you want to open is 10308 to 10308. Some have success doing 10308 to 10309... And then the IP address you put associated with that forwarded port is the one you got from your computer's assigned IP.

You can't get the IP from google's "what is my IP" search- that gives you the IP of your connection to the router into the real world... not from your computer to your router.

Save the settings once it's set up and then give it another go.

As far as i know the modem is all we have don't have any other(router) etc plugged into this or our cable modem all pc/laptops are me plugged straight into the cable modem an the laptops are all wireless. I un-installed Norton an re-installed MSE's than checked my firewall an DCS World/LOMAC was'nt even list as an exception in the list so I added them. By default there set to home/work(private) an other is public. But I notice that other games I have on this pc are set to 1st option Home/Work(Private) but connect normally. Also last nite i found the the control panel access that manages the gateway settings thru my internet provider. Do i need to change somthing in there to what u referenced in the above post? I went to 192.168.0.1 an it took me to that Network gateway. Will look around a bit found a port forwarding tab but not sure as have nvr messed with this stuff b4.

My friend, this is getting to be much more complicated than it should be.

1. Go to control panel/windows firewall and remove the DCS entry you have added.

2. Open DCS World/Multiplayer/New Server. Select a mission, select INTERNET in the server type drop down menu then click START. When it has loaded, click DISCONNECT. You may get a window that says windows firewall has blocked it......click allow.

3. Go to control panel/windows firewall/allow program option and you should now see DCS. Select change settings and then check the box that says public. Then click OK.

That should do it!

Wouldn't he have a hardware firewall on his router by default? If he's got wireless coming out of it, then it's acting as a router and isn't "bricked" as an open door just going straight from the wall to his computer.

I'm not trying to make it more complicated but if he's wanting to host he's going to have to port forward just like the rest of us.

Not meaning to sound snarky either- just conversational.

He stated that he didn't have a router....just a plain ol' simple cable modem like me....plug and play. With that the only firewall to be concerned with is the windows firewall, assuming that another hasn't been installed as an alternative.

Posted

Yeah but then he said he's got the rest on wireless which suggests there's more at play.

Additionally, the device I got from my provider is a router but can be disabled in its routing function to prevent it from interfering with newer routers a user may want to use instead.

And it sounds like there's an interface with the firmware on the device which also suggests there's more at play than a straight through cable modem- remember I say suggests... I'm not taking a stance on it.

So I see your point but at the same time I think the op will need to post The device model for us to continue in any useful fashion.

Yeah my internet provider gave me the ip adress to manage that an i saw a forward port tab in there will call my provider an get support as we have wireless here also for our laptops though I'm hooked into the modem.

Give us the equipment information- manufacturer... model... that way we can look into it and give you some clarity. Blooze has a point- you may not even have to worry about it... but you might- there are indicators on both sides.

Are you looking on Internet servers or LAN? It won't show up on Internet while you're on the same network.

Yeah Blooze tried helpin me earlier on TS an still no joy he could'nt see it. I googled the model an name an it showed as a wireless modem though I'm plugged straight into it. Gonna call my ISP tomorrow.

Okay, well I have exactly the same one so this should be easy. It is wireless- but just about all wireless have LAN connectivity as well. Generally when you're making changes to it it's advisable to be hooked in via LAN cable.

You should have the IP and password on the modem itself somewhere. If you haven't changed it, it may be blank or just password or admin.

When you're in there, go to "Applications and gaming" on top.

When you're in A+G, click on the tab that says "port forwarding"

When you're in port forwarding you'll see a bunch of rows. Go back up to my instructions in one of my previous posts and follow those- getting the IP from your computer (the one assigned by the router) and forwarding port 10308 to 10308.

Click on "Both." (UDP and TCP)

Click Enable.

Click save settings.

Done.

Yup I tried that yesterday using the steps provided in previous post u mentioned. It did'nt show anything relating to applications/gaming but it did have a port forwarding tab an I tried putting the two ports suggested but did'nt do somthing right as it did'nt accept it. Will look more closely at it again tomorrow an try again.
