skc Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 I recently installed DCS from the PC Pilot disc. It updated (1.4gb!) and I then purchased and downloaded the AC10C, (1.02Gb!) However when trying to install I get this message! Can't install A-10C 1.2.4.12179 into newer DCS World 1.2.12547 Please install A-10C 1.2.4.12547 installer. 1. Where do I get this installer? 2. If I uninstall DCS and reinstall it without it updating will the AC10 then install? 3. If I do this is there anyway one can save the update to DCS. In my area we have to pay for Internet Cap and all this downloading is costing almost as much as the game itself! I want to get flying. Please help! Thanks in advance.
skc Posted May 22, 2013 Author Posted May 22, 2013 Forgive my ignorance but what is Module Manager, where do I get it, and how do I use it in relation to the A-10C file I've downloaded? Been an Il Sturmovik flyer, this is a whole new ball game!
JetlinerX Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 Open DCS World, and near the bottom of the main screen, you will see "Module Manager" option. Click that, and log into the Eagle Dynamics store with the account information you created when purchasing the A10. skc Posted May 23, 2013 Author Posted May 23, 2013 Thanks guys for your help so far. Am waiting on "official advice" to my query as well. My problem is the enormous downloads one has to do. I am only allowed 5gb cap/month and when I purchase extra for all this it costs me $$$ (So far getting close to the cost of the A10 itself!) Does one have to continually upgrade the A10 after each DCS upgrade. If that the case this game is going to be too costly to continue having and I may as well go back to my beloved Il2 & FSX. Also have ROF which is bad enough but bearable.
JetlinerX Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 You wont have to re-download the A10 after every update, but if the A10 or DCS World get an update, you will have to download that. They are usually anywhere between 1GB - 3GB However, how are you living off of 5GB per month, and being a gamer? Amazing. Irregular programming Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 (edited) Are you sure you applied the patch? Because that's an old version of DCS world, download DCS World from their website, don't install extremely old versions, then download the A-10 from the module manager (or try installing the one you downloaded), you are probably not gonna get any more official advice if you don't contact ED directly. Updates are handled automatically, and are fairly small. (edit, try starting DCS World again, maybe it will find more updates, the A10 is the correct version and shouldn't need to be redownloaded) Edited May 23, 2013 by Irregular programming
Darkwolf187 Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 When DCS World is updated, it will also update any modules at the same time. Notably, most updates are not that huge. The last one was 100mb. You don't have to download the whole thing again every update, just use the built in updater.
skc Posted May 23, 2013 Author Posted May 23, 2013 Reason for the 5gb I live in "darkest Africa". Not so long ago I only had 3gb and not long before that no broadband at all. Things are improving here but at 'Africa time' Thanks for all the help guys. Will see what I can do. May have to buy yet more cap or wait until month end!
skc Posted May 23, 2013 Author Posted May 23, 2013 Success at last! Thanks so much guys for all your help! I did the recommended 'purchase from module manager' and after a 300mb update and activation key,..the Warthog! I should have realised from Rise of Flight...the aircraft is already 'built into the game' They should explain it on the purchase/download page otherwise I need not have done that 1.02gb download of the A10! BTW shall I still keep it as some sort of backup or delete to make way for other stuff? After a quick action flight I noticed that when I shoot that Gatling gun thingie, there is no evidence of strikes on ground, buildings etc. Is there a graphics setting to change or is game like that? If so with 10+ year old, IL2 even showing up ground strikes, this it would be a disapointment. Shall I post this last section onto another thread? Now to learn this new monster. (Comes a long way from WW1 !)
Irregular programming Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 I don't know where you are looking to not see the gun hits. Are you sure you are using the correct sight?
skc Posted May 23, 2013 Author Posted May 23, 2013 It's just the sight the 'instant action' starts up in. (1st one of the A10 instant actions) The Gun is shooting like mad but see nothing hitting ground, buildings etc, wether I'm looking from outside or inside views. (Almost like I shooting blanks!)
Hyphara Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 That's weird, you should definitely be able to see the bullet impact. In fact, bullets have their own flight model in DCS, so it's not only for visual pleasure. This is an older A10 video by the producer Matt Wagner flying the A10. you can see the impact for example at 5:50 If you can't see anything it might be beneficial if you post a track from your flight, so we'll be able to help you. Just save the track after ending the mission.
skc Posted May 23, 2013 Author Posted May 23, 2013 Thanks Hyphara. Will try to give the game some more attention over the weekend and come back with that track if need be. Bye for now.

I don't think that's the site. If you look up more and way ahead of where you are looking I bet you will see them. Hit the master mode until you see "guns" on the Hud and then that circle is your site. There are several but that's a easy one to see.
quyes Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 At what range are you firing the gun. I'm wondering if your out of range of where your aiming and the bullets are falling well short of your target, and therefore out of sight.
