IvanK Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Trying to set up some realistic Air To Air refuelling scenarios (Russian probe and drogue) but having issues. If I simply set up a tanker and get it to fly a box pattern with say 20 waypoints all is well. The Tanker comms menu is available. It works but having to manually insert 20+ waypoints to keep him in a pseudo race track is clumsy. If I try and set up the same tanker mission but use the advanced waypoints option to set up a Refuel and a racetrack the Tanker comms menu is not available and he never deploys the hoses. He flies a race track ok but wont give any fuel. Can someone give us a hint on how to do this in an efficient manner ? What I would like to achieve is set a Tanker at a specific position just doing racetracks and giving fuel to anyone (Human or AI) who comes along.
STP Dragon Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 It is working fine for me. Take a look in the Freeflight mission of my TRAININGPACK. (see signature) Tanker Texaco is flying a race track, Arco and Shell are flying a orbit. IvanK Posted June 6, 2013 Author Posted June 6, 2013 Danke Dragon will take a look at the mission structure.
IvanK Posted June 6, 2013 Author Posted June 6, 2013 Tried your method Dragon but no luck.My mission attached. I have a Tanker who I want to set up a racetrack at Waypoint 2. I have set it up in the Advanced Waypoint menu as a Tanker and to orbit at waypoint 2. I dont get a Tanker comms menu so cant get him to deploy the hoses. What I want to happen is for the tanker to set up an orbit or race track at WYPT 2 and stay they for as long as he can giving fuel to all who show up and ask for gas.SU33Tanking2.zip
STP Dragon Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 (edited) I'm not at home so I'm not able to take a look. But what you have to do: - Add a aircraft to the map. - Set the task to "Refuel". - Set the aircraft type to KC-135 (I think...) - Do not change the frequence or callsigne. (default = 150.000AM Texaco) - Set the altetude and the speed you want to have. - Add two waypoints. This is the start and end of the race track. - Click to the first of the two waypoints. - Open the advanced waypoint options and find "Orbit". Set it to RaceTrack. - Click the second of the two waypoints (last waypoint) and add a waypoint (new last waypoint) at a airport. - Set the new last waypoint to "Landing". Edit: Ahh oh wait! You are using the Su-33? So you are on the red coalition? The Su-33 needs a basket to refuel, right? If yes then you have to use the russian tanker type. Like I said I'm not at home so I can not take a look. I think the red coalition do not have a callsigne set by default. It is possible that you have to use the advanced waypoint action "set callsigne" at the first waypoint. IvanK Posted June 6, 2013 Author Posted June 6, 2013 Thanks Dragon. I will start again and try exactly like that.
ENO Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 That's a good point but I seem to recall on AM that given the option on calling a tanker you could see it come in as 105 or 106 (or whatever never you have as a callsign.) I don't think they have "traditional" callsigns and have numbers in the callsign position instead during the configuration screen. Is it possible you are setting a different frequency than the default- but then setting the change of frequency to happen at a period below the advanced "orbit" action? I've always found the racetrack a bit restrictive and prefer to set longer tracks by using the "switch waypoint" action in "perform command" I think it is. That way I can set a track 100 miles long if I wish. Typically your tanker frequency is 150AM... then F6 I think for tanker and then 105 / 106 / Arco / Texaco etc. A couple of normal mistakes include improper radio frequency or band (am/fm), failure to "prepared for contact / cleared for contact" when in precontact position... In addition depending on the type of Russian aircraft you're using... make sure you select the proper version of the tanker aircraft. I know on occasion I've selected aircraft that are the "next down" on the list though still a VERY similar looking aircraft... resulting in unpredictable behavior. When selecting the aircraft make certain that its mission type is set as "tanker" by default. All possible issues. I'm sorry I can't be more help I'm not at home either. "ENO" Type in anger and you will make the greatest post you will ever regret. "Sweetest's" Military Aviation Art
IvanK Posted June 6, 2013 Author Posted June 6, 2013 I am only working (at present) with the SU33. So by Comms menu I mean the drop down list that allows you to select the messages ... like "intent to refuel" etc.
