WooKong Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 Hi, i am new to this forum and i want to build a pit. Is it good idea to build pit for A-10? It is out for 2 years and i am wondering if it wouldn´t be better to build something for new game like FC3... In few years, graphics will be better, new games will be out and DCS a-10 will be unplayable for us like Doom now...
MacFevre Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 First, it's all a personal choice. The A-10a/c has always been my favorite plane since I was in the Air Force, with a close 2nd being the A-7. For flying sims, the A-10 is my favorite because I like to be able to be up close and personal with everything. I am not a ga (general aircraft) flight simmer because the most action is take-offs and landings. I know there is a lot more involved, but for me, going from JFK to ORD is not my idea of fun. That's a very basic, not quite fair slant on it, but that's just me. I also like going low and slow and moving mud. Therefore fast paced sims like the F-16 don't really hold my interest either. (Though Ralfidude has a great time it seems. I highly suggest his YouTube videos. They're pretty fun, and I'm quite jealous of his ability to fly and general ability to take out his enemies.) As far as DCS is concerned with making the A-10 modern as the years go by, I would be very surprised if they didn't. Just look at their update on the KA-50. People still play FS2004, and that's almost 10 years old! After the Gulf, the AF re-prioritized the A-10, so I don't think it will be retired anytime within the next 15 years, so there's no fear there. Also, FC3 is using the same engine, so as far as it being better graphics-wise, it's not. Plus, what aircraft would you pick out of FC3 to model? And wouldn't you then have the same questions? So in summary, if you like the A-10, I personally would not see any obstacles concerning it sticking around. If you like a different aircraft, by all means use that one. He was building it for a year and finished before few months and he already started selling it. Is it so boring? Will i be building a pit for a year and then sell it in few months?

Maybe you should tell us. Nobody but you knows that answer. How well do you like the A-10? As far as being outdated, it's not going to happen in a long time. So far DCS is the most advanced flight sim to date and nothing is really going to compete with it at this time. Besides, look at Falcon BMS. It's a redo by a community of sim released in 1998 and people to this day still play it.

If I may speak for R1, I don't think at all he's bored with the A-10. From what I read on Check-6 Forum, he seems to go through difficult times at the moment. That's the reason why he's selling his panels. deaconjb Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 I think the answer lies in what you enjoy doing. Over the years I've concluded that there are those who like to build cockpits and then there are those who enjoy the sim itself. Some like both. Once a "builder" completes his project, they seem to enjoy moving on to the next "build". If you enjoy the sim more than building, I might suggest building a general purpose pit that can be utilized for many of the DCS titles. That what I'd did. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
