Boris Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 I just noticed that only three of the four Mk-82 class bombs can be loaded on a triple ejector rack. The Mk-82, Mk-82 AIR and the GBU-12 can all be carried in threes, but the GBU-38 JDAM variant cannot. Since it's essentially the same bomb with a different guidance system, I wonder why not??? PC Specs / Hardware: MSI z370 Gaming Plus Mainboard, Intel 8700k @ 5GHz, MSI Sea Hawk 2080 Ti @ 2100MHz, 32GB 3200 MHz DDR4 RAM Displays: Philips BDM4065UC 60Hz 4K UHD Screen, Pimax 8KX Controllers / Peripherals: VPC MongoosT-50, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS, modded MS FFB2/CH Combatstick, MFG Crosswind Pedals, Gametrix JetSeat OS: Windows 10 Home Creator's Update
JB3DG Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 I believe it requires a special connection between it and the aircraft in order to transfer the target position before release. No wireless here...
HugePanic Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 I request a triple-reck for mk-84's.... And some better engines... :)

Since it's essentially the same bomb with a different guidance system, I wonder why not??? Because they are 'dumb' bombs (including the GBU-12 in this case). The GBU-38 requires the aircraft to send it the target location before release. That means that there has to be a data connection between the aircraft and the bomb. The other bombs don't need that, so you can just drop them and they do their thing. As far as I know, the GBU-12 works the same way, there is no specific connection between aircraft and bomb, and just like with the CBUs, in the real aircraft, you can't change anything on the bomb on the fly like laser code or HOF. That has to be done by the ground crew. aka: Baron [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

mvsgas Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 (edited) Correct. Here you can see the only multiple rack available for JADMS AFAIK, the BRU-57. Never seen them loaded on a A-10, not sure if they have been approved to use on them. You can also see the data cable connecting the GBU to aircraft click on image to enlarge Misawa Airman preflights before OIF mission BALAD AIR BASE, Iraq -- Capt. Boris Posted July 3, 2013 Author Posted July 3, 2013 Thanks a lot for the detailed answers guys! kenf22 Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 Actually, a quick google search brings up the newer TER that was designed for the F16 and A10 with the data connections to carry the JDAM. I do not know if they are being used IRL but I have been hoping they would add it. I have also been hoping they would allow us to put the TGP on the outer pylons (there have been pictures of the A10 flying with this configuration). I can't seem to find a mod to do this either.
