My local CompUSA's weekly sales flyer has the Cougars for $179.99 after $35 instant savings and a $25 manufacturer's mail-in rebate. I haven't yet visited my local store to see if they even have any in stock (actually I've never even seen them there before). I'm just curious if this is nationwide or not. Anyone know for sure?

Whats specialy sad is that high fi replicas of real aircraft controllers will be forever associated with this problematic porduct. Everybody that considers manufacture such a controller will have the cougar as a mental factor. I just hope CH doesnt quit making their sticks either. I need some time to get one of those yet.

This is not the end of the Cougar!!

The reason the cougars are in Compusa's now is that they wanted to get them in the retail stores, compusa has been able to special order for a person who wanted one, but never had them in stock, but now they do. Now on the price, the price I bet was set for Xmas pricing, but the sticks never made it to the stores on time, who knows what could cause that to happen (Remember they are imported to the states) so it could have been several things that delayed cougars being at your local compusa. All I know from what I have heard thru the grapevine is that they are not going away and will be around for a good while. So if you ever wanted a Cougar now is the time, and for the "Cougars are going away" stuff, na its all hog wash!!!

What I think is that they need to revise the design if they are ever to make another one. I say give us back the plain plastic, but improve the quality of its guts. We would have a durable product that doesnt wieght a tonne nor will it break easely wich will bring down the cost of faults to the company. Then they will be able to support it decently.

i wouldt buy a "cougar 2 " if it was made out of plastic, the feel of cold metal is the Cougar's charm

Well you cant have both looks feel and quality in an affordable stick. Throw in all that you idialize and youll get a 1000 buck stick. The manufacturer wount even consider that, since the SIM market is small as it is much less to an elite. What we need is an atractive stick wich handles good and that doesnt break easely. Anything else is a luxury Im afraid. What makes the cougars price is its metal body. Its electronics and handling arent even worth that of cheap sticks.

What Guilemot will probably do, is a saner and more sober design. If it behaves good there wont be any fear to support the custumers due to heavy fault costs. The quality of the end product is sure to be much better. Just look what CH has donne. (even though I would improve the throttle to look a bit more realistic)

There was a thread at SimHQ about this except it vanished when someone posted that apparently the reason for the delay in the Cougar getting the 64 bit drivers was because Guillemot have not been able to secure a deal with their chip suppliers. Apparently they supply the drivers and don't seem to be bothered about releasing 64-bit ones which leaves Guillemot and their users high and dry it seems unless they change their minds. If this is not the case it's odd the thread was deleted :icon_conf

I wonder what the deal is what that, how hard could a driver be for a company in that market, especially for a J/S. Its not like they are writing a driver for a video card.

That said, I have had my Cougar now for about 6 months. I have had no failures, and no complaints about performance.

The only thing I can complain about is the metal body gets slick when my hands start to sweat. I might have a to pick up some flight gloves at a surplus store :) Real pain when you are trying to lock some SAM in the "T" and shit hits the fan....... and then your hand slips on the throttle LOL!

I am going to strangle the next person who starts a hardware related topic on the "General discussion" section.

Use the damn "Tech discussion" section for this!
