Recently I've stumbled upon this (quite old) blog post

http://blog.lenovo.com/perspectives/display-ratio-change-again

Well, the blog seems official. Previously I thought the reasoning was just a rumor or something. If this is true we'll be facing a 'take the one, flat ratio we have or GTFO' situation. Quoting one of the comments:

It all boils down to - no egg-head understands consumer requests. All they understand is the language of money. Hence the only way is to put our money where our mouths are. Refuse to even look at anything wider than a 16:10 display. Considering the market is massive now your decissions will not be enough. You will have to slap those clueless family members and friends of yours to... convince them not to buy 16:9 displays and notebooks with such displays.

Hopefully a newcommer to the market will fill this niche. Perhaps one of the companies who sell Linux-certified notebooks.

The same situation with the glossy displays $#it. I used to think that my notebook is outdated, but looking at its matte 15", 1600+ resolution, 16:10 display I'm not sure anymore.

[facepalm] Just because one person thinks 16:10 is the only answer doesn't mean it is. Awhile back 5:4 ruled the world. The guy quoting has a knuckledragger mentality. There should be any number of aspect ratios out on the market. 4:3, 5:4, 16:10, 16:9, 21:9, etc...

Yeah, facepalm it is. You've made up a notion ("16:10 is the only answer") and you're arguing with it. Congratulations. In the beginning I thought you're winning the argument, but now I think you're winning the argument. So, keep it up.

So, keep it up.

IMHO, the market has capacity for 4:3, 5:4, 16:9, 16:10 and 21:9 sales.

Ignoring your provocation as random internet noise.
