159th_Viper Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Can pick one of these up from Amazon for £176. Question is thus: Is it worthwhile for the price/capacity or are there better SSD's out there for a lower price? Advice appreciated :) Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? Dudikoff Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 (edited) What about Samsung 840 Pro? It's similarly priced, but should be somewhat faster.. Its NAND (21 nm vs 19 nm) should be also somewhat longer lasting.. The Plextor also seems to be a power hog, so I'd avoid it if getting it for a notebook.. Samsung 840 Pro seems to excel here. Plextor used to have performance consistency problems with a higher load, but this is more relevant for enterprise uses: http://www.anandtech.com/show/6505/plextor-releases-firmware-102-for-the-m5-pro-promises-100k-iops/2 If you need space, another option would be to forgo some performance and go for a 50% more expensive 480/500 GB drives? Like e.g. Samsung 840 EVO or maybe Crucial M500.. EDIT: Edited because it wasn't clear which drive I was referring to.
