ENO Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 Eh guys- I've been reading about dynamic weather and the templates appear to be as easy to install as going into dynamic weather, down to templates... choose your template and load. However when I go to try and do that, it doesn't pick out the template from my saved games / dcs / mission editor / dynamic weather folder. Any thoughts as to what I'm missing? ENO Posted September 18, 2013 Author Posted September 18, 2013 (edited) whoops- Didn't read enough of the thread. Perhaps I'm mistaken, however it appears you need to open up the .miz file by converting it to a 7zip / zip file first... then go into the specific weather file and copy / paste the chosen template into that document... then convert your mission file back to the .miz extension. Is that closer to the truth? http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1346513&postcount=1 But now I'm in the mission file at the weather section... the post above shows that the script starts at "Vdata"- however no such entry exists that I can see in the mission file. Where do I put that "variable weather" script that he has attached? Any ideas? Edited September 18, 2013 by ENO "ENO" Type in anger and you will make the greatest post you will ever regret. Wrecking Crew Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 No,,, You have the right path in your first post. Choose the Dynamic Weather tab in the Weather section. At the bottom of the screen there is a space to type in the filename of your Dyno Weather file. I will name these the same as the mission but with a very simple revision indicator: Sturm Mountain 1a. The box where the filename goes will prolly have 'Default' in it. I started with an example from one of the guys here to initialize things. Take a look at White Bird, for instance - that mission has a whole bunch of weather 'zones' in it. To adjust a Dyno Weather file I will Save a file and keep the ME open on one monitor, and open that saved Dyno Weather file on the other monitor and make adjustments, like to the X and Z values to get the placement right, adjust wind, fog, etc., and the Pressure and Elliptical values. Save the adjustments to the file and then go back to the ME and Load that modified file. If I want to make more changes I will typically Save the Dyno Weather file again with an updated revision using the ME, open it in Notepad++ and edit and save it, then back to the ME to see how it looks. I am not closing out the ME in these steps. You do not need to open the mission's .miz file, at least I don't. ENO Posted September 18, 2013 Author Posted September 18, 2013 I guess the tricky part I've run into is that I've found some really well done weather.lua files over in that thread I link to and want to transplant those templates into the mission... When I put the lua template file in the proper folder- it doesn't let me open anything other than "winter, clear" or something to that effect (and default, of course). Thoughts? Wrecking Crew Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 Try generating a dynamic weather condition with the Generate button, Save that as a filename of your choice and go look in the path to see if it did get saved there. If it is there, then you should be able to edit it with Notepad++ or something, and save it and then should be able to use the file picker within the ME Dyno Weather panel to see it and load it. I do not rename my Dyno Weather files in the path folder - I do all the file naming/revision change from within the ME Weather panel. I think I tried renaming the file in the folder once, and found that it did not work, like the file name is also somewhere in the file itself. If you want, we can talk through it later tonight. ENO Posted September 18, 2013 Author Posted September 18, 2013 (edited) Hmmm- interesting that the template bar isn't picking up my new template... though it's supposed to be as easy as putting it in the mission editor folder where I described. With that being said, that folder is empty- even of the 2 default templates. Hmmmmm. Thanks for your time on this crew- I'm wondering if this isn't a bug or maybe the necessary folder has changed. I'm going to go hunt it down. Edit: Found it- in the program files / ED / DCSW / Modules / weather.me lua file... but I don't think that's what I'm after! ENO Posted September 18, 2013 Author Posted September 18, 2013 Okay well sorry for the multiple spam posts- but here's where I got: I mucked around in the weather.me file and as most of you who know how to do this probably already know that wasn't right. So then I blindly stumbled into the fact that the "default weather" entry in the weather part of the mission editor could be typed over so new things could be saved. Sorry- I've never used it. Anyway, I saved a new kind of weather under a different name (tada- I'm an idiot) and went back to the mission editor / dynamic weather folder in saved games and there it was (yet my custom template from the old weather thread was there as well but I couldn't see it in the actual ME browse window.) Not knowing why this was the case, I transplanted the script from the custom file over to the one I'd created in the ME. Went back into the ME and sure enough, now THAT file isn't visible. So clearly something isn't quite right with the file... anyone care to take a look? "ENO" Type in anger and you will make the greatest post you will ever regret. "Sweetest's" Military Aviation Art

ENO Posted September 18, 2013 Author Posted September 18, 2013 Whoops! Figured it out. Went through the script and saw that it was named after the winter clear scheme. When I re-named it to something different, it showed up as required. Thanks crew- might still see ya tonight! "ENO" Type in anger and you will make the greatest post you will ever regret. Wrecking Crew Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 ^^^ Yaya I think that's what convinced me to not try to rename the files outside of the Mission Editor -- I just use Notepad++ to change the variables. Paganus Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 The ability to just load a file was broken a few versions ago. You have to save one in the ME and edit it. If I'm not mistaken the same time the file load ability broke, they changed the format of the file a bit so old templates don't work.
Wrecking Crew Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 ^^^ I'm not having any issues with older templates... I did make a new mission in v125 that has Dynamic Weather (Sturm Mountain), and the weather file I started with was from an older mission. That mission was opened in the ME and saved under v126, but I did not adjust any weather variables in it on v126. -- I do agree that the weather file should be saved from the ME. Then the weather variables can be edited outside of the ME and saved -- without changing the file name.
