The main reason I don't like in game communication solutions is that they don't allow the user to control which sound devices are used.

I run the game sounds through a sound card and voice over a USB headset.

absolutely no reason they couldn't put that feature in.

Exactly. Even BF2 let you do that as I recall, certainly I've seen it in other games (currently there's a request for it in ArmA3 as they haven't done it in that yet).

How about lack of ressources? ED have a lot on their plate ATM.

It's not that they don't want to, but gameplay wise, there's so many things that benefit the game more, especially when 3rd party software already provides that functionality.

If you want to use IVC, TARS is a good plugin for this job.

BTW:before any new feature is introduced into DCSW, I think ED should do the best to fix the bugs firstly, or the system will become more and more unstable.

DICE has like 3-4 times as many programmers than ED has staff... :P

There's a lot of things that would be awesome to have, but resources are limited and it comes down to priorities. Sad but true.

I think ShuRugal meant that if voice comms were developped, then there would be no reason not to allow users to choose sound devices and all (as Paganus complained was lacking in other internal voice communication devices).

Well, that's how I read it.

As did I, I wasn't saying that if DICE can do it, there's no reason why ED can't, just that technically it's not an issue.

For now, I'd certainly be more interested in seeing existing bugs fixed and performance increased.

I don't think that anyone is suggesting we should ignore current bugs in favour of new features, that's insanity.

But, that said, there's no reason other features cannot be put on the table, considered, planned for. Writing an application, especially one as complex as DCS, is not even a remotely linear progress. Just because one section is having trouble doesn't mean other areas of development cannot continue.

I often see people bemoaning why ED keeps cranking out new modules when core stability is still an issue. The answer is simple enough: the people building the aircraft models and writing the flight code don't work with the core code. If you're building a house, you don't stop the electrician running wires just because the carpenter has to re-set a frame, you just have him run wires in a different wall.

Now, I don't know how closely related IVC is to the functions currently experiencing trouble, but there is no reason that work on the one is automatically exclusive of work on another.
