canuck Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 Now with the Me 262 arriving in DCS I believe we'll see a lot more of our prop heads becoming part time jet jockeys and maybe some jet jockeys becoming part time prop heads.
baronWastelan Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 I started off in Il-2 1.22 as a Sturmovik pilot, but ultimately the 262 became my favorite to fly, because it is as challenging and hazardous as I have read about in the history books. We'll know if RRG get it right when we see a lot of customers complaining in the forums about how difficult it is to keep the turbojets running.
alfredo_laredo Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 Personaly i would prefer having another Prop instead of the 262.. Like the P-38 or the Stuka! The 262 in a flight sim is not going to be a really hard plane to simulate, theres no real 262 flying today (maybe a replica with new gen engines) so no real sounds recorded, no real pilot input in the process etc.. In DCS i predict is going to be so overpowered that no P-51 is gonna catch it and I see a lot of WW2 servers banning the 262 262 is gonna be use just for the fun of it.. but performance wise is a killer to the experience of WW2 (Props) the 262 didnt change the curse of the war because it was too late! and to few! and specially full of mechanical problems that are gonna be hard to see in a simulation. I Hope they find a way to balance this bird.. A.K.A. Timon -117th- in game
BHawthorne Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 Would be interesting to have the YP-80A up against the Me-262.
baronWastelan Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 In DCS i predict is going to be so overpowered based on what?
Altflieger Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 Jet jockeys in a prop plane. Hmm, that'll be fun. No radar, missiles, clueless about energy management, very limited ammo loadouts, less than 10 buttons to push on the Hotas. Can't see it myself but I'll gladly shoot them down...
alfredo_laredo Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 based on what? Real Life... (taking out mechanical problems) A.K.A. Timon -117th- in game

Now that is a very funny summary. :D 'What? You mean you can actually see the aircraft? Up Close?? Like with colours an' all??? Aaaaaargh!!!' :helpsmilie:
baronWastelan Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 Real Life... (taking out mechanical problems) Looks like you are predicting RRG are going to model a modern replica of a 262 that has modern turbojet engines. What is the basis of this prediction?
Altflieger Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 Some of them think ww2 is going to be a study sim for prop planes. Sweet!
Geronimo989 Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 I am sure that they are going to model it so that it can very easily be broken if not flown carefully. Also, if on a server with 30 people there are only like 2 Me-262s it can also be rare. Mustangs could catch them on their landing approach or after takeoff. So I don't see the problem there.

I'm a self-professed jet jockey and I've read my Robert Shaw, thank you very much. You're just hating because you can't get to 30,000 feet in one minute like the jet jockeys can. :smilewink:

You're latter point also true :) but imagine how much harder it'll be for someone used to that? Standing still after just a 5000ft zoom climb. Like I say, looking forward to shooting them down. :D
