No matter what I do the Dora is impossible to get behind :joystick:

I've trimmed, set radiators rpm and power. I've made sure that

stick and rudder input are corrected for the short throw of our

fake equipment :music_whistling: (warthog btw) and still the D9 out turns and

out climb me easily. Perhaps it should since it was arguably the

best piston powered fighter of WWII with highly ergonomic pit and

automated systems like the commandogerät.

I seem to snap every time I turn but the most annoying part is

that it accelerates away from me in every situation I cant even keep up

in level flight.

I know this is supposed to be hard but I need a hint in what direction

I should look to get better:pain:

Any ideas will be recieved with gratitude and if you don't have any I'll

volunteer as target later on :megalol:

I seem to snap every time I turn

This would be a good place to start. Everytime you snap in a turn, you wasted too much energy and you also lose any advantage in position you had since your opponent will continue to fly in a controlled state.

Also, how are you trying to get on his tail? Are you continuously flying lead pursuit? Where in the learning curve are you at?

It can take thousands of hours to become good at this. The first thing you need to do is decide whether you love flight enough to justify putting in the effort it could take to become proficient at virtual dogfighting. If you decide that you do, I'd say the next step is to try to get real-time help from people--those who are willing to share their time & expertise on voice comms, who can watch you fly, fly with you, and show you maneuvers & techniques. I can't imagine trying to learn something like dogfighting without help from others.

Ah, don't get me wrong, I love it and will spend the time on it :)

I'm part of a squad so I'll tackle it there as well. Just wonder about

if it's possible to extend in level flight from the Dora?

I've just started to fly the P51 so I'm very early in the curve so

I'll get the hang of it.

I think I made the post wrong. English isn't my native language so

some things might be formulated incorrectly. Let me put it this way.

Is it possible to break engagement and extend away in level flight?

Is it possible to catch the D9 in a climb?

Is the D9 faster on acceleration and in a dive.

I have ordered D9 data from archive in Germany mainly because

I'll fly the German planes primarily but also because I want to know real

data :)

Regards and thanks for the answers.

hi hakjar!

yes to pretty much all of your questions:

  • its possible to extend in level flight from the Dora
  • its possible to chatch, gain and even overshoot the Dora in a climb
  • (is the dora faster on acceleration and in a dive) well, i cant say for sure, for me now it indeed seems to be the case, at least for a certain period, but once the Dora reached a certain speed, you should be able to stay with it, and even gain on it

all of those points definitely depend on altitude you are fighting at, and of course your skill level.but with a bit of training you shouldnt have a problem at any altitude...

the real fun will begin once the dora gets flyable!

but for now against the ai, i can tell you, that with a bit of training, you should be able to outturn it, get behind it in siccors, let it overshoot with doing barrel rolls, gain on it in vertical climbs....

you can as well just fight it successfully with pure energy tactics, avoiding tight turns and rolls at all, and succeed with only trading speed with altitude and vice versa.this way after some passes, if done correctly, you should have the Dora about 2 thousand feet below you desperately trying to climb up on you....if done correctly, you can get very nice and satisfying shots on it during a high speed dive while the dora just stumbles down again after the peak of its climb...

The best bits of advice I can give are:

1. Keep Dora in sight ALWAYS. From the moment he flys past in the head on I've got eyes on. From then on, it's a case of staying orientated and bringing the nose round to the target but never taking eyes off the Dora.

You need to keep in mind where you are, what you're doing and what energy / speed you have at all times without looking at the instruments - all the while maintaining visual contact with the enemy.

2. You need to manage your energy well which means thinking about what dora is doing in relation to how much energy you have that way you can plan ahead but it happens quickly. Don't try to out climb or turn the dora cos he'll just make you bleed off energy / speed. Watch what Dora is doing and try to learn to anticipate his next move and then you can plan how you're going to exploit his maneuver to cut into it so you put yourself on his tail.

How you do this all depends on where he is and what he's doing. There's no right and wrong way, it's all about practice and predicting the enemy and knowing when he's done or is going to do something you can exploit.

3. Don't be aggressive with the controlls. Nice and gentle into those turns / climbs. Just give the stang what it needs and then try and recover the energy again as soon as possible. The more altitude and energy you have over your enemy the better! If you're following Dora into a steep climb until the point you've bled off all your energy and the plane drops, you've gone too far and this is where you need to anticipate the doras next move and be ready to intercept before he drains your speed / energy.

And despite all of this, I can get on Dora's tail 90 - 95% of the time I attempt the FW-190 mission but I still can't kill the little swine LOL

After putting a few rounds through the Dora, the pilot decides to climb and head off home LOL That and I think he's made of titanium for the amount of rounds he can take and still not suffer :/

That was my perception of data that it should be very well matched with a slight advantage to the P51.

I can manage to avoid the D9 getting a firing solution but he climbs, dives and

has better level speeds than me and I can't turn inside him without snapping.

Ergo I need more practice on this machine :)

That's really all it is mate.

Just make yourself a hard target and wait for him to make a mistake you can exploit. As long as you keep your energy you're ready to make your move as soon as the opportunity presents itself.

You'll get there.. It frustrated me for the first few days but after watching some dogfight videos on youtube, I took notes and applied them to what I was doing and now Dora rarely gets the better of me. :pilotfly:

Good luck mate

Try watching these, they helped me alot.
