Harpoon Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 (edited) Emergency Broadcast System local test. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7n8bYk0B_Q&feature=youtu.be Everything made by me. Yep, most people from the age of 17 and above should remember this if they lived in the US (before 1997 or permanently.) I tried to make it as realistic as I could do in Audacity. Made the EBS tone phase a little like real ones, added 60 hz and 15750 hz tones (which are the sounds you hear near a CRT tv, the buzz and the whistling sound in the ears), ran through AM filter 2 times and added a bit of bass to sound like the audio coming out of VHS tapes. Script: THIS IS A TEST OF THE EMERGENCY BROADCAST SYSTEM. IMPORTANT INFORMATION WILL FOLLOW THIS TONE. (pause for a few seconds) (tone will sound, pause for a few seconds) THIS IS A TEST OF THE EMERGENCY BROADCAST SYSTEM. THE BROADCASTERS OF YOUR AREA IN VOLUNTARY COOPERATION WITH THE FCC AND OTHER AUTHORITIES HAVE DEVELOPED THIS SYSTEM TO KEEP YOU INFORMED IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY. IF THIS HAD BEEN AN ACTUAL EMERGENCY, YOU WOULD HAVE BEEN INSTRUCTED TO TUNE TO ONE OF THE BROADCAST STATIONS IN YOUR AREA. THIS CONCLUDES THIS TEST OF THE EMERGENCY BROADCAST SYSTEM. More info on this: Always issued every week on a Saturday, a Weekly Test would appear with a video slide (if using TV) and an announcement stating that the station is participating in a test of the EBS. It will pause for a few seconds, then a sine wave tone of 853 hz and 960 hz combined will sound. This selection of frequency is due to the unpleasantness on the human ear. It will last for 20-25 seconds, and stop. A few seconds of silence, then the same voice you heard just before telling that this was a test, and what to do in case of a real emergency. This system was replaced with the Emergency Alert System (EAS) in January of 1997, the system that wakes you up @ 3 am when those tests come on after accidentally leaving the TV on and scare the living crap outta you. Interpersonal drama and ad hominem rebuttal are things that do not belong on a thread viewed by the public. One thing i have to point out... naming a thread.. "OK, so" is as useful as tits on a bull.
cichlidfan Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 How about... "It's 10 o'clock, do you know where your children are?" I think you have to be at least 30 to remember this one. cichlidfan Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Heh, I'm less than half that age. The TV station would pose that question just before the 10:00pm news show. I think it started in the late sixties or early seventies.
