awdrgyjo Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Is there a rough formula when to start a dive in CCIP mode, using time to overhead target, and altitude, [example at 17000 feet start dive 4nms from target] I know pressure settings and terrain will make a difference, not to mention consent to release, but as stated, just a rough guide, thanks in advance.
towsim Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 For a 45 degrees dive bomb with a 90 degree roll in, the following formula could be used: Hight above Ground level in feet / 6080 + 0.5 = abeam distance to impact point. Example: 12000 ft AGL, space for the 90 deg roll in turn 0.5 NM (depends on TAS) abeam = 12000 / 6080 + 0.5 = 2.47 NM. for a 30 degrees dive: abeam = 12000 / 6080 / 0.557 + 0.5 = 4.04 NM. Where 0.557 is the tangent for 30 degrees. For 45 degrees, the tangent is 1.0. Therefore it is not included in the 45 degree formula. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Hansolo Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Hi awdrgyjo, There is a great source of information in the 476th Battle Book for correct CCIP delivery: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=99688 It aquires a lot of training but I am sure it will be worth while once I get better at it. WildBillKelsoe Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 For X dive angle, you start with 476th battle book base altitude putting the target at your 3 o'clock, then roll-in angle is X+45. For example, for a 30 degree dive, you roll-in at 30+45= 75 degree of bank, pull standard 3-4 G's and roll out when the target is at 12 o'clock. It's not that important and doing it by the book is something old fashioned anyways. Just roll-in with target passing 3rd canopy rivet and you'll be good for now. Hansolo Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Hi again awdrgyjo, Forgot to mention that there are a lot of good information in the complete thread. In post 36 there is a diagram showing how to roll in Cheers Hans 132nd Virtual Wing homepage & 132nd Virtual Wing YouTube channel My DCS-BIOS sketches & Cockpit Album
