According to the Wikipedia the HAWK SAM had 6 modifications, with changes made to the missile itself, as well as to the quantity and capability of radars. In DCSW we have two HAWK radars, which should point us at the final iteration of the HAWK - the HAWK XXI, which is equipped with a HPIR and a Sentinel Radar. However the radars in DCSW are a HPIR and a PAR radar and, if I understand correctly, there was no such combination in real life. So it is either we have the wrong radar in the case of the HAWK XXI or someone forgot to model an appropriate CWAR and/or ROR radar for the other HAWK modifications. Given that the HPIR radar in DCSW is, if I am not mistaken, an AN/MPQ-46, so the HAWK modification in game should be Improved Hawk (1971) or PIP Phase I (1979) both of which should incorporate a CWAR and ROR radar.

So which HAWK do we have? The reason I'm asking is that I am trying to create a SEAD mission which will realistically reflect real world SAM placement, battery composition etc. and, apparently, this can not be achieved... A HAWK battery should also have a TSW-8 Battery Control Central, ICC Information Coordination Central and an MSW-11 Platoon Command Post, which are not modeled in DCSW, however I guess I can use their counterparts from the Patriot battery, as it will not affect gameplay.

Here's a link to the Wikipedia's article - there is a table of HAWK radars used in different modifications:

I worked on the HAWK HIPIR in the early '70s -- was in South Korea with the 2/71st, B Battery, "The Wrecking Crew" :-)

I was responsible for the electronics in the two HIPIRs and one CWAR in our battery. My roommate was the Pulse Acquisition Radar mechanic -- he may have had responsibilities with the Battery Control Central, as well. This was in the age of little vacuum tubes -- I think 250V plates and 6.3VAC filaments, if I recall correctly. There certainly was 440VAC in my radars.

Yes, my HIPIR were the Improved '71 (or so) version. The PAR did the general searching, the CWAR did ranging and range on jam, and the HIPIRs did the tracking and illuminated the target for the missile.

When I lay down a HAWK site in DCS, I like to mimic what I worked on as best I can with one SR AN/MPQ-50, A couple of transport trucks and a Hummer, and the two missile sections with one each TR AN/MPQ-46 and three each LN M192s. Each HIPIR gets three launchers.

Following the convention mentioned in some threads re air defense radars, the SR An/MPQ-50 is the first unit in the group.

Wrecking Crew Thanks for the insight :-)

That still does not explain why there is no CWAR or ROR radar in DCSW...
