Bodo Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 Hey all. Just bought myself a Sidewinder 2 on eBay for 25 quid and I'm wondering what I should look out for from other users. I have seen the post about the swap axis thing to make FFB work. WHat tips do others use if they still have their Sidewinder2? I'm guessing I could do with a throttle. I'm selling my X52Pro on eBay currently and I think I may wait for the X55. However, are CH products that much better than an X52Pro or is it worth waiting or going for something else? I'm sure the Warthog would be great but I rarely play A10 and I'm wanting to get back in to the game what with EDGE coming soon. I'm still not overly confident of the build quality with the warthog and even then I'm not so sure about the TM. I hope the X55 has a FFB version! Wonder how much it will retail for. I'm guessing 150 GBP Corsair 550D / Be Quiet 650W Pro 10 / ASUS P8Z77-V Pro / Intel i5 3570K / 16GB Kingston HyperX 1600 MHz / EVGA GTX 970 SC ACX2 4GB / 128GB Samsung 830 / RME HDSPe Multiface 2 / 1TB Samsung F3 / Prolimatech Megalames Rev. B / Windows 10 / BenQ XL2420T / Saitek X52 Pro / Kone Pure+ / Filco Majestouch 2 Ninja
taps Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 I wouldn't expect too much at the moment due to the many bugs with regard to FFB in DCS.
PeterP Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 I wouldn't expect too much at the moment due to the many bugs with regard to FFB in DCS. ... it will be fixed in the next major update. Yes, setting input.use_read_thread=false disables FFB in 1.2.6. The bug is fixed in the internal version. input.use_read_thread=true is the default value in 1.2.6, and does not solve the original issues for those who have it. Changes were made to the input processing in the attempt to fix FPS loss with MS FFB2 joysticks. Looks like in its current state the code creates more problems than it solves and needs more testing and experiments. 1.2.7 will revert these things back to 1.2.5 level until we have a better solution. ... No force feedback but I don't really feel like I'm missing out on much.Have a look to get a idea what you are missing: (following vids are made with highly modified MSSFFB2 hardware, but it applies the same to a "standard" FFB stick - follow the video info at youube to see why I have uploaded them and for more info) FFB in the Ka-50 (same applies to the Huey) : FFB in the A-10 : FFB in the P-51D : - sorry , no 1:1 comparsion vid - but look at the Virtual-stick and the control-indicator to see what the real FFB stick does wile getting nearer to a stall: A highly variable stick-shaking before reaching a stall, also a limb stick when no airflow and getting stiffer as you going faster. A absulute unique helper to fly the P-51D at the 'edge'. ...and you also feel your set trim in the P-51D (as in all other DCS modules also)as the trim input will deflect your stick. What has been shown/named above is similar in all FC3 planes Well, the Trim behaviour is up to now(1.2.4) a little bugged for the G940 (not going limb when trimmer is pressed down) - so please have also a look at this thread: >>> G940 Trim Workaround My conclusion: Using a flight-Sim without a proper FFB stick is like having XXX with a Rubber-doll - it just doesn't feels right.
Bodo Posted November 19, 2013 Author Posted November 19, 2013 Cool, cheers, PeterP So...I see..Bring on 1.2.7 and a hopeful fix to these issues, then. I only bought it to see what it's like. Never played BS with FFB and really wanna see the trim react properly. I'm waiting for the X55 to make a judgement on whether to buy that, CH products or maybe a TM. Gonna be skint...
