Hai guise ^_^

Friend is about |this| close to buying the Ka-50. One question about it, how does the datalink work in multiplayer since we can't start out grouped together? I don't see any way to connect to him in the Shark like you can in the A-10, using the NET settings on the TAD. So any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the reply. Try as I might, I can't seem to find anything that lets me change the datalink channel? I'm looking at the buttons on the top and the stuff on the right with the self-ID thing and such, and still no luck

Aha! Found it! So as long as we're on the same VHF channel there we can have datalink? sweet. Much easier than the hog. Thanks man

Yep, that's it. Set same VHF channel, select different ID on rotary under the nav computer, and make sure that only the person with ID 1 is set to flight leader mode (knob beside id knob)

Page 174 (6-100) in the BS2 flight manual details the R-800 (aka VHF2) radio. You and your flightmates have to be on the same frequency.

Page 153 (6-79) details the radio and data link power control panel. In general, these should all be turned on. Specifically, the 3rd and 4th (i.e. the middle 2) switches should be turned to use the datalink.

Page 134 (6-60) details the PVI-800 and associated switches. On the bottom, the right-hand switch (#24 in the picture) is the off-board targeting data link power switch. It needs to be on.

Finally, page 141 (6-67) details the PVTz-800 off-board targeting data link mode panel. There are 2 knobs. The left-hand knob controls your number in the flight. In general, flight lead is set to 1. The right-hand knob controls the data link mode.

  • The 1st option, Disable, disables the data link.
  • The 2nd option, Receive mode, sets the data link to only receive information without actually broadcasting anything. You can receive target data, but you can't send any. Additionally, you can see other flight members on the ABRIS, but they can't see you.
  • The 3rd option, Wingman mode, sets you as a flight member. You'll be able to send and receive target data, you'll be able to see your flightmates on the ABRIS, and they'll be able to see you.
  • The 4th option is the Commander mode. The manual currently says that it allows you to send and receive info "just from the flight leader". That's not how it behaves for me. For me, it works just like the Wingman mode, only you have a 2-circle icon on the ABRIS instead of a 1-circle icon. I'd appreciate if anyone has any further insight on this.

If you want to have a flight with >4 members, the extras can be on the same frequency and set to receive only. Otherwise, they can push to a different frequency on the R-800 and form their own flight.
