MadCow Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 So I've taken up a project to create a Warthog in a game called Space Engineers. If you haven't heard of it, it's essentially a Minecraft in space with physics. I'm interested in building an A-10C that's large enough to make it look smooth while being built mostly out of square and triangular blocks. Problem: I can't find good reference photos that have the same camera distance. I don't have the game installed at this moment, but that's an easy fix if anyone happens to know if there's a model viewer where I can go in and get the specific shots. If there's no model viewer, maybe someone in the community would like to help me out? I need 6 shots: Front, Back, Top, Bottom, Left, and Right. The catch: They have to be as close as possible to being the exact same camera distance and be as perfectly straight on for each perspective as possible. I plan to lay a grid on top to help me build this out of the square blocks, and any change in distance can throw off the grid and layout in game. I don't mind doing the pic work myself if someone can point me in the right direction for a model viewer. If there is none and someone's got an interest and/or time to get some shots and send them to me, it would be HIGHLY appreciated and if I decide to make a vid of it and post on youtube, I'd add your name under credits for source material.
cichlidfan Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Yes, there is a modelviewer. Xavven Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Here are a few screenshots (see attached). There are two underbelly shots: one with gear up and one with gear down. The rest were taken on the ground to make it easier to take perfectly level shots (the camera stops at 0 degrees pitch angle). I added a few angled shots as well. The loadout used, from station 1 to 11 (left wingtip to right wingtip) is: ALQ-131 ECM Pod LAU-131, 7 Hydra Rockets (WP (Smoke Marker)) LAU-117, AGM-65D Maverick (IR Sensor) GBU-12 (Laser Guided Bomb based on the 500lb MK-82) GBU-38 (GPS Guided Bomb (JDAM) based on the MK-82) Empty (this is the center hardpoint on the fuselage) GBU-38 GBU-12 LAU-117, AGM-65H Maverick (CCD (Regular Camera)) AN/AAQ-28 (LITENING II targetting pod) LAU-105, 2 AIM-9M (Sidewinder missiles) Reference Image Request.zip 1
MadCow Posted January 23, 2014 Author Posted January 23, 2014 Thanks for getting those shots for me Xavven! Much appreciated. Chichlidfan, how do we access the model viewer? I'm assuming we'd have to have the game installed for this, correct?
cichlidfan Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Chichlidfan, how do we access the model viewer? I'm assuming we'd have to have the game installed for this, correct? As far as I know, yes. There is a ModelViewer.exe in the bin folder but it may rely on other files to function. 1 ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! MadCow Posted January 23, 2014 Author Posted January 23, 2014 Well then, I'll have to install the game tonight and check it out. Thanks for the info Cichlidfan.
Dirt_Merchant Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 Ive done exactly what you're going for, but I did it in Kerbal Space Program. I dont know if many of you've heard of it, but its a super fun way to spend time outside of sims. You can design and fly air and spacecraft through the atmosphere of the home planet, or you can go into solar space and go to other planets. I use a lot of mods for my version, they add things like more realistic aerodynamics modeling, extra parts, etc. Just to show off a little of that the game can do, this is a small collection of some of the craft I've built over the last couple months. http://imgur.com/a/jFCw8 and as a teaser... (I admit I may have taken liberties with the design;)
