I have A-10C and I have seen a lot of FC3 posts.

1 - What is FC3? and why all the interest recently?

2 - Can I use my A-10C module with FC3?

3 - Are the aircraft in FC3 detailed sims like A-10C?

4 - I really like the complexity of A-10C but I'm looking for a less complex aircraft to add to my collection to change things up every now and then. What would you suggest?

Sorry but as a new DCS enthusiast I find this rather confusing. Thanks in advance.

It is a survey sim as opposed to a study sim like the A-10C. Means more aircraft at less detail. The requirement to have Lock On installed to be able to install FC3 is going to be dropped, so there is now renewed interest.

2 - Can I use my A-10C module with FC3?

FC3 is a module to DCS World like the A-10C is. If the question was can you use it with DCS World like A-10C, the answer would be yes.

3 - Are the aircraft in FC3 detailed sims like A-10C?

No. If you want an example of what to expect from FC3 aircraft, try out the free Su-25T that comes with DCS World. Some of the aircraft have lower fidelity flight models. In the case of the F-15 and Su-27, those are in the process of being ramped up to full AFMs.

Try the Su-25T, see if you like. If yes and you want some more airframes at that LOD, go for FC3.

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

1. FC3 is Flaming Cliffs 3, a many-times-updated version of Lock On: Modern Air Combat. It used to require an installation of LOMAC, because of license agreements with Ubisoft, the original publisher, but now ED can sell it themselves.

2. Yes--FC3 is just another DCS World module.

3. No--they're about as complex as the free Su-25T.

4. FC3 buys you the A-10A, which is a natural complement to the C model, the basic Su-25, and variants of three fighters (the F-15, the Su-27/33, and the MiG-29A/G/S). They're all a complete blast, and I really like them for the same reason you might--as a complement to the heavier-weight planes.

For me, A10c and Ka50 are the best study and over all ''air to ground'' sims.

FC3 is not a study sim but it is one of the best ''air combat'' sims.

It gives you the opportunity to simulate air to air combat with low systems fidelity.

And except from the modern fighters, it also gives you 2 nice CAS planes to A-G with, without

having to finish a ''combat pilot university'' first.
