"The Wolf Pack" | Su-33 Campaign WIP
Spades_Neil replied to Spades_Neil's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
:D Glad you enjoyed the mission! Number 4 is so far my best work yet, and I do too enjoy the multirole involved here. As for the skins, I'm just waiting on a friend of mine for nose art and I'll include the skin as a part of the final version of this campaign. I managed to snag some epic screenshots from the fight which I plan to put into the final version of the map when it's put into a campaign as well. -

New mission is in! :D And erm, moderators, is there any way to bump my thread without posting? >_> And is there a minimum timeframe for bumping? Maybe I'm just ignorant, but I don't recall reading anything in the rules about it. I could just be ignorant... -

Hm, I've casted polls on several sites beside here, and so far the gray emblem has majority, but at least here the colored one is starting to catch up. Maybe I'll make two versions to satisfy those who prefer the colored one? :) -
"The Wolf Pack" | Su-33 Campaign WIP

Most certainly. When it's finished, it'll be bundled into a "Campaign" file. I've never messed with the campaign editor before, so this will be a first for me. If I manage to screw that up somehow I'll still pack the missions together in a single archive. Unless the total file size is too large for me to use file sharing sites, we should be fine. -
1st Trailer - 2nd Trailer - WANTED: Voice actors! Send me a PM if you're interested. Preferably those who can do a decent Russian accent, or those who can speak both Russian and English, but I'm also going to need some NATO actors too! So anyone who thinks they can do a decent bit of acting, send me some PMs! "The Wolf Pack" is a campaign where you play as a mercenary flying for the Russian Air Force in an Su-33. I'm hoping for this to become a very large long-term project for myself and anyone in the Lock On community who wants to join in! While as many of you know, I drop by on a regular basis to complain about some stupid glitch I've found (because I just have that rubbish kind of luck :P). However, don't get me wrong. No game is perfect. Every game has its glitches. After the first patch came out for FC2, the use I got out of it compared to FC1 absolutely skyrocketed! I was really mad about the initial release, but the patch repaired at least 80% of my troubles, the other 20 I can overlook. I decided to try to use my resources to their full potential. The trigger system allows me to create missions I'd never have dreamed of in FC1, from simple dogfights to deadly gauntlets. In addition, I've been trying to use voice acting to the best of my ability, using Audacity to edit sounds to add in radio effects and background noise. But here's what I've got so far. It's going to be a very interactive and hopefully long campaign. Plus a few Easter eggs now and then referencing things I like such as Ace Combat, Top Gun, and even a couple videos I've done! I have a total of three characters so far that have had voice acting parts in this. Voice actors so far... Col. Voyla - Your commander and director for probably the entire campaign. Boris Ruslan - Callsign "Pegas", Boris is the pilot of your tanker plane. Lt. Graviil - KA-50 pilot who is introduced by the 3rd mission. Ian Sokolov - Played by my buddy "Sam", a Tu-142 crew member originally employed by the air force on a research grant to perform high altitude tests. Now that the war has begun, he has been reassigned to a Tu-95 and given the task of cruise missile strikes. Capt. Sergejevich - Charismatic and honorable captain of the Admiral Kuznetsov. Planned voice parts include... Spades - Me, of course, and I'll be making an appearance in a later part of the series. :P Sam - Sam playing himself, both of us referencing the YouTube video I have created. Want a part in this? PM me. Create a character and a short bio for them. Accents are nice to have! Need a name? Try http://www.behindthename.com to find a good one. These will all be packed into one campaign when I'm done. Don't worry guys. There have been problems with the downloads lately. Anyone know a better file sharing website? Or can I have an admin help me upload the larger files? :P Mission 1 - Arrival (non-combat) http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?07bqjybj32a17ty Mission 2 - First Flight (border patrol) http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?27p7stt8g6gow0n Mission 3 - Barrakuda (escort for KA-50) http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?qlhia2a2b46wmmq Mission 4 - Russia's War (assault on Gudauta) http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?ys65wvm9js8ap1u Mission 5 - Blockade (escort Kuznetov from Sea of Azov to the Black Sea) http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?kd2li3dd8kxrfq8 Mission 6 - The Black Sea (incomplete, protect Kuznetov and destroyer escorts during rendezvous with the Moscow and Pyotr Velikiy) (No link) Mission 7 - (Unwritten) (No link) Note that all of the campaign missions are works in progress. By the end of this, I hope to have a skin and everything prepared for the campaign using the emblems below--plus more if I can get a decent artist to help me out. Any bugs you find in the trigger system, let me know, or even repair it yourself if you know how. Anything that just doesn't seem right otherwise, or if you have any constructive critique, also drop a line. :joystick: :pilotfly: By the way, I'm debating which emblem I should use for Volk Squadron. So vote. Here's a completed emblem.

This is a very strange glitch. I have no idea what causes it and no idea what fixes it. However, two days in a row this was happening on the Su-25T and then it disappeared yesterday and went back to normal. I think I once had a squadron member complaining of a similar error. Note that the HUD is not the only instrument doing this. I failed to get a screenshot of the attitude indication, but that too was reading that I had rolled a few degrees to the left even though I was flying perfectly level. Very odd. o.o This happen to anyone else? :joystick:

For my next episode of "The Adventures of Sam and Spades", I'd like to start the video off with a viewing of several Russian landmarks with the Soviet National Anthem playing in the background by the Red Army Choir. Then the song gets interrupted by my angry wingman who is pissed at my character Spades for playing it. :P Because it's the Russian Federation now. Not Soviet Russia. Then begins the episode... No more spoilers for now, but I figured I'd have more luck asking here than anywhere else because the game developers are here. Ironhand did a Crimean tour, I know, but there's nothing for FC2 yet as far as I know, so I need help. Maps would be nice too. In-game screenshots also would be nice.
-
As much fun as the KA-50 seems, I appear to absolutely FAIL when it comes to flying it. Maybe I'm just not a chopper pilot? Still, I'd like to learn. Trouble is, the tutorials don't work 'cause of the new patch I've installed, and to be honest, I found the tutorials a little difficult to completely comprehend as well. Any other video tutorials out there? EDIT: Holy crap this thread got a lot of replies, and I forgot to subscribe to it. :O Well, fixed that now. Anyway, I also have an X52 flight stick. Before I do anything, I need a profile for it that doesn't suck. >.> I'm sure you guys could easily help out on that.
-
I seem to either be absolute rubbish at searching through forums, or no one has posted about it yet. :P Anyway, I'm just trying to find a nice map of the FC2 landscape complete with the names of airbases and the airbase numbers with them. I know someone had once developed an in-game version that would sit on your player's lap in the Russian jets which really helped for navigation, but I have seen nothing like this (yet) in FC2. For now, I just need a regular map. I'll hunt down this mod later, but this map is my priority.
-
Yeah, I get this on the MPU as well. I have gotten this problem since this game came out. I mostly ignore it now, but it only happens in multiplayer for me. Seeing as most people seem to play multiplayer, it always feels like I'm the only one getting the more bizarre glitches. :\

Moar bugs to report. Actual bugs. Not just me screwing up the game. Silly AI thinks he can kill me. But seriously, this is annoying. I can understand enemy planes trying to evade me in order to not be shot down, but this completely unarmed Yak-40 is actually trying to CHASE me! It's very easy to replicate this glitch as well. I've done it twice now. The plane's task is "transport". Also note that the plane exceeds its "maximum" speed and altitude in order to give chase! This game is still loaded with AI bugs including but not limited to this. I know they fixed the AI for the Sochi-Adler base in the last patch, but ALL airbases I have used so far have problems with the AI in one form or another. The AI is still screwy as you all know. But this is just the beginning. Still a lot of problems with the map editor and the in-game map. There's even invisible hills I've crashed into. See below. Damaged helicopters LANDED on this invisible hill. I can't count how many times wingmen have taken off from an airbase to follow me after reloading. They just turn and throttle it, flying through objects, floating in mid air, and flying in a straight line with wheels down until I tell them to RTB. Then they just stop in mid air and sit there about 100 feet above the ground... Oh, and then there's the carriers. They launch off the deck with their wings folded. Got a screenshot of this one. Stupid pilot. >_> Oh, and for the record, skin mods don't screw with the AI. I love how everyone assumes that a simple mod like that will break the programming of the game. I've been modding Lock On since the original. It won't mess up anything. Oh yea, and the helicopters... This is a terrain glitch, but I saw them land in mid air too. I have screenshots of that too and a location on a map. Likewise, my plane magically explodes flying over this region. Happened not once, not twice, but ALL the time. I just don't fly there anymore. Oh yea, and anyone who's developed a decent mission knows that the mission editor map does NOT match up with the in-game terrain. And compass directions are still screwed up. The game either ignores my inputs or resets them most of the time. And the AI still behaves wrong on airfields except for Sochi because Sochi is the only one they fixed. Don't know why... Water level is also wrong further south, it seems. Weapons often fail to hit because the water is in the way, or the phalanx fails to shoot down incoming missiles. Please tell me Eagle Dynamics EVENTUALLY has another patch planned. :\

[AI Fail] Transports CHASE fighters?

AI still needs some serious work. I can't count how many times wingmen have taken off from an airbase to follow me after reloading. T'was funny as hell, of course... but it's rather troublesome none the less. Stupid pilot. >_> Oh, and for the record, skin mods don't screw with the AI. This is a terrain glitch, but I saw them land in mid air too. I have screenshots of that too and a location on a map. Likewise, my plane magically explodes flying over this region. Happened not once, not twice, but ALL the time. I think it may have something to do with how the map is also slightly offset. I just don't fly there anymore. Oh yea, and anyone who's developed a decent mission knows that the mission editor map does NOT match up with the in-game terrain. And compass directions are still screwed up. The game either ignores my inputs or resets them most of the time. Water level is also wrong further south, it seems. At long last, the video you've all been waiting for! Even if you didn't think you were waiting for it. Well guess what? You were! Enjoy. :3 :pilotfly:   :megalol: Also, your YouTube tag is still busted, LockOn forums. :\

I've been wanting to do my own version of the famous Bill and John videos for quite some time. Now I'm finally going to do it! Mine will hopefully last longer than two puny episodes... :P :pilotfly: MARVEL AT THE TRAILER. MARVEL, DAMN IT!

How many aircraft are you guys planning to incorporate into the franchise? o.o I would love to one day see Flaming Cliffs flying online with a myriad of aircraft far beyond what we already have! The F/A-18 is one I'd like to see, but I admit I'd prefer to see it be a hell of a lot easier to fly than the Black Shark. xD I like the style Flaming Cliffs uses for its aircraft. Realistic, but arcade-realistic. Not extremely realistic like DCS Black Shark. It was too difficult for me to stick with.

Good. We need a few patches. Hopefully the borked AI on the runway will be fixed. Don't need Blackjacks and Flankers crashing into hangar walls or crossing the grass for some odd reason, or having Chinooks chop each other to bits before they can even take off. :P The runway AI is my biggest issue. Oh, and how there are ghost hills in some regions of Russia. >_> I watched a helicopter land in mid air, several times, after being shot up. I got screenshots of it after it happened several times.
-
This time, taking off with helicopters. It seems the Chinook doesn't get along with other helicopters. :music_whistling: I have helicopters taking off from ramp on Pashkovskij. This happened several times. This was the first game it happened in. I thought it was due to the intersection. This time the Chinook crashed into the Blackhawk which stopped for another aircraft turning at the intersection. I watched the Chinooks crash into each other and cause a nice pile up. Same as before. :\ There just needs to be a tweak in the AI to tell the Chinooks how far away to stop from another aircraft.

Mission Editor - Not All Planes Showing Up
Spades_Neil replied to lennycutler's topic in Bugs and Problems
This is actually intentional I believe. Silly, but intentional. You cannot have multiple units for some aircraft. I asked about this once before on the forums here and someone from ED said it was supposed to be like that. Of course, if you have fighters doing this... that's an issue. -
I can't edit ogv files. That's the problem. 30 minutes of footage is no good to me if I can't make it small enough for YouTube, edit it accordingly, or run music over it. Apparently the AVI recorder doesn't record AVIs. And Handbrake crashes when I try loading my file. So I'm afraid that's no use to me either. :( Also, why does the other rendering option save all these PNG files? All it does is eat more memory than most people have on their computers. It creates no video.

How do I make ships attack targets in FC2?
Spades_Neil replied to Spades_Neil's topic in Bugs and Problems
Huh, that seems to have done the trick. Interesting. -
The "Attack Waypoint" doesn't exist for ships, and the "Attack Zone" doesn't have any check marks in it. I send cruisers to attack a base and naval targets and they don't launch a single cruise missile. Yet, in Su-33 - Black Sea Battle, it's a bloodbath. I tried looking in the mission to figure out if I'm doing something wrong, but in this there aren't any attack waypoints or anything of the sort. How am I supposed to replicate what happens in this mission? How do I make naval targets attack ground targets?
-
Unfortunately it only converts 60% of it if you don't buy it. :\ I already tried this one.
-
There are significantly less options than in Lock On 1.0, I noticed. However, I'm having problems with the PNG + WAV codec (I believe it's called?). When I went to record a video, rather than record it, the video went on to save over five-hundred gigabytes of PNG images in my video folder. Luckily, my hard drive is a terabyte in size, but still, it startled me to have nuked over half my memory in one evening of rendering. That wasn't rendering, though. That was taking a screenshot of every single frame in my video as well as recording a WAV file for sound. There was no 'video' here. Meanwhile, the other format successfully converted 5 gigabytes worth of video (30 minutes long), but I still have a problem. It's in .ogv format, which I am unable to use in any of my video editing software. :| YouTube will not accept it because it's not under ten minutes. While I can use Fraps in a worst-case-scenario and just do the video that way, from my experience, my videos look so much better when I render them properly because I can max out the quality without worry about an FPS hit in the video. I mean, my computer is pretty epic, but I don't want to risk making a crummy video because I maxed out the graphics during recording. So, I come to the help desk asking if anyone knows of good, free OGV to AVI (or WMV) converting software? I tried VLC, maybe I'm a moron with it, but I only get the audio half. :\ No video. Haven't found any tutorials that are any helpful. It's always the same result. Audio comes through, but no video.
