  1. Histotoxic hypoxia is no joke, especially since NATOPS dictates that jet aircrews are on 100% oxygen from takeoff to landing.

This explains a lot to me, I was already thinking why don't they just go to lower altitude and put of the mask? Didn't know the aviators wear the mask always. Tom Cruise didn't for sure :D

  2. I think everyone agrees that F-22 should have been the replacement, and cutting short their production was an incredible mistake. But there are only 187 of them, that is less than 4 per US state? Those who cut this short dealt the USAF a blow that no enemy would ever be able to pull off.

It would more than make sense to fill the enormous gaps by using F-16's coming free due to F-35 replacement for ANG air defense.

  3. I think there might be a problem with both part obsolescence and airframe fatigue on the F-15C fleet. The F-16C replacement option seems a realistic and affordable scenario to me, as there are already plans to introduce SABR AESA radars on the F-16.

Flying aircraft until they literally fall apart would serve no ones interest I guess. As long as we can keep flying the fantastic F-15C in DCS, I'm happy :)

  4. I don't think anyone has mentioned the Su25 vanilla which is an absolute peach to fly compared to the 25T, never tire of flying the Frogfoot.

I second that, the vanilla Frog is an absolute joy to fly!

Others I really like to fly are F-5E, Mirage, P-51D. I must confess though that I fly them like an airliner, I almost never search for the flight boundaries and keep it very safe.

Viggen seems a future winner to me, but FM isn't final yet so I shouldn't include it here. At the moment turn performance is abysmal.

  5. On my portable with a CH Fighterstick I experience in mid flight suddenly my rudder going to the left where it stays blocked. I had this with both the Mig-21 and A-10, I guess I have it with all planes. It is after some fighttime and manoevring.

Now there are some famous aviation accidents with a blocked rudder due to metal fatigue or substandard pins breaking, but I wonder what happens here?

Are it micro-inputs that accumulate? Or is it just a broken joystick?

  6. a Completely New F/A-18J/K Block III/IV w/ all the Bells and Whistles to Rival the F-35 would cost just as much, if not more.

Retro-Fitting/Rebuilding the Block II's to the Block III Standards (ala F-14s) and Buying the CFTs and PODs Might be cheaper, but you'll still have the problem w/ Flight Hours Fatigue...

And Basically a Majority of the Block II Super Hornets are either in the RAAF or USN Growler Squadrons, The Majority of the Line E/F Fleet are still Block I or Block I's w/ Upgraded Radar and ECS Systems (i'd say Block 1.5, lol).

The Super Hornets are going to still be around for a while, so As the Block I's Start to get Mothballed, might as well Re-Build them or Replace them w/ Block III's

Block III's will come w/ all the Wiring and Sensors (minus the AN/ALQ-218 ) of the Growlers off the Line, so You'd have Minimal difference between E/F and G's, as right now the Growlers have significantly more electronic wiring and sensors.

The Growlers will continue to Fly after the F-35C takes over, so any Sqns w/ Block III Aircraft can send their aircraft to be converted quickly to Block III Growlers by Fitting the Antennas.

Stealthier Growlers w/ CFTs and NGJ/EWP along side F-35s would be the best option for 15 years from now.

I agree. The only issue with the F-35 is that it is 7 years late. This has caused many headaches, for logistics, planning, people's careers ... It also means that the legacy hornet fleet is falling apart and that the stopgap Super Hornet has become the mainstay of the fleet. Adding more, more modern Super Hornets could be a good interim solution to soften the pressure, but is no real surrogate for the F-35. The growler is an asset in its own right that will stay important long after the F-35 has been introduced to the fleet in sufficient numbers. Buying or refurbishing F/A-18E/F's with Growler wiring (as the Aussies did) is a smart move, but is no alternative for the F-35, and certainly not for the USAF.

  7. I managed to score a direct hit! I made a target with a FARP and some barracks, in a circular zone about 30 meters in diameter. After really precise measurement in the ME of the altitudes, distance from IP and bearing I got a big hit ! This works great!!!!
