  1. I suppose we need some upgrades to make the P-51D flyworthy in current highly regulated airspace. What about a Garmin GTN 750, a GTX 327 transponder and some nice UHF/VHF radio sets? A GSR 56 Satcom could complete it all! Not sure we'll manage to get an IDM though. A FADEC for the engine would be super, and don't forget the P-51D is already completely "Fly-By-Wire", allthough it is more appropriate to say "Fly-By-Cable". :=)
  2. It's totally not my cup of tea but I'm supportive and think it will enrich the collection! I tried everything on WW2: BoB, IL2 in all its guises, CloD, Wing of Prey, ... everything back to the dustbin. however, I did have some fun with Realair's Spirtfire for FSX, geiven the very nice models, excellent aerobatic performance (of the spitfire, not me of course) and the sound of the the merlin engine. I guess this will be the appeal with P-51D: hopefully fantastic engine sound, incredible aerodynamic performance (one of the best designs ever!) and some engine management to work with. And then read the announcement, which really gor me wildly enthousiast: "The P-51D will be the first aircraft in the Flying Legends series that focuses on historical aircraft that have set benchmarks in combat aviation." Given this definition I for myself am already 100% convinced we will at some point have the F-4E Phantom, the absolute strike fighter *ever* to have flown the skies! :=)
  3. But then again 200 of them would be insufficient by far, given the sheer size of the US and the fact that this will be your bread & butter machine. Not every airframe you have is available at every moment, some are undergoing maintenance, others upgrades. Look at how thin the F-22 force proves to be. Aaron is more realistic with 500-800, I would think about 1200. Depending on how many pilots you have, your airframes can be longer in the air of course even with lower flight hours / pilot. Anyway, with about 120 F-35 effectively delayed, we already know for sure that they will never buy the original figure. But that is nothing new.
  4. Stunning pictures of F-35 night flight: http://www.businessinsider.com/the-f-35s-first-night-flight-prompts-the-pentagon-to-say-2012-1
  5. Top, many thanks!
  6. Some better news: Pentagon to take F-35B jet off 'probation'-sources http://in.reuters.com/article/2012/01/19/lockheed-fighter-pentagon-idINDEE80I0KF20120119
  7. A small question @speed: how did you deduce from my mission that it was 37T ? (in other words is there another way to know than tweaking the NATO.lua file?)
  8. Hello Speed, Thanks for your answer. My problem was that my CDU was set to 38T. Once I changed it to 37T, it all works fine (and indeed I was mistaken about GH170284 not being in GH12). My question is now (can be a dumb one): how do I know it is 37T, since the JTAC omits the grid zone in his 9-line brief?
  9. I also noticed the JTAC is a little nervous and starts yelling over the radio ... but in the end he always comes up with "you may depart" and the only thing I'm concerned with is looking though the TGP to see whether I hit the target; often you're lucky and you take out two for the price of one missile! We do need a "shut up and take cover" message :D
  10. Still a mistery, and I guess one that is followed attentively throughout the aerospace industry. The Raptor is one of the first aircraft that uses composites in such an overwhelming way. Also, a lot of new skin materials and glues have been used. It's not abnormal that some unexpected issues with toxins arise. In a way, it's good that these issues come to light with the Raptor, it would be a whole lot more disturbing if it were on a 787! We're not even completely confident that an all composite aircraft is your best bet when entering electromagnetically disturbed airspace like a lightning storm. As with previous revolutionary techniques, it takes time to sort it all out.
  11. Hello Nate, could you look into this?
  12. In attach the mission I was working on. There is a JTAC "Playboy" (kind of spy) on the VHF FM radio admidst the hostiles that will lase the Tunguska. You will see that if you approach to low, so that the Tunguska isn't in line of sight and you have LSS on hoping to intercept the beam from playboy, that you will track the approaching Rezky ship in the background instead. Escape from Novorossysk 4.miz
  13. Just a quick mission I made with the Mission Editor
  14. Well, seriously damaged a Resky. See mission below. Beware of Tunguska. Escape from Novorossysk 3.miz
  15. Is this a known bug? In the region of Achigvara near Gali I always get wrong coordinates from the JTAC: it should be in the GH12-GH13 grid, and I always get GH16 - GH17 coordinates, completely off the mark. I thought I had the same problem near Kobuleti. In attach a mission with only the necessary things in it to show what I mean. Contact the JTAC on FM 30 MHz, and you will get the wrong coordinates FT new roadblock mission.miz
  16. I run the current version but do not CTD?
  17. The TGP in LSS mode automatically tracks ships. Is this meant to be the case? I find it very handy in antishipping scenarios. I just put LSS on, when I popup over the hill it automatically tracks the vessel and I can lodge an AGM-65G onto it. Would even be better with AGM-65E!
  18. Some very nice footage indeed, thanks!
  19. This thread is rapidly derailing ... Can we please stick to the news and keep opinions for ourselves?
  20. http://www.aviationweek.com/aw/generic/story.jsp?id=news/awx/2011/12/29/awx_12_29_2011_p0-410195.xml&headline=Saudi, U.S. Finalize F-15SA Sale&channel=defense "The deal with Saudi Arabia includes Raytheon advanced, electronically scanned array (AESA) radars for the F-15s, plus 10 Goodrich DB-110s, an internationally marketable version of the Senior-Year Electro-Optical Reconnaissance System flying on the U-2, and an infrared search-and-track capability. Sniper and Lantirn targeting and navigation pods are also part of the package, along with Digital Electronic Warfare System. The weapons package features AIM 120C7s, the AIM-9X Sidewinder for air-to-air engagements. Also included are 500-lb. dual-mode laser-guided munitions, 2,000-lb. Paveway III laser-guided bombs and Sensor-fuzed Weapons including the Wind-corrected Munitions Dispensers and 2,000 lb. Joint Direct Attack Munitions for hitting ground targets. The AGM-84 Harpoon Block II, which does not include the Block III data link package for in-flight retargeting, is built-in for engagement of ships and the Saudis are also buying the AGM-88B High-Speed Anti-Radiation Missile. 21. After they were so eager to blame the pilot, they now find it prudent to inspect the EOS fleetwide: http://www.newsherald.com/articles/force-99290-inspected-oxygen.html My - humble and strictly personal - opinion on these guys wouldn't comply with the forum rules, that's for sure! :D
