  1. Factions:

    Spoiler:

    show spoiler

    BLUFOR:

    • NATO
      Faction info:
Only deep reconnaissance, special operations and field intelligence services personnel may be encountered in the area of operation.
Support for your mission is scarcely limited.

    1. OPFOR:
    2. Iran (2)
      Faction info:
The presence of Iranian troops is estimated to consist of a battalion-sized combined fighting force with conventional capabilities. The highest concentration of forces is estimated in a newly constructed base adjacent to a former NATO/Greek air force base (ICAO: LGLM) and objective Omega. Majority of the force is designated to a base perimeter protection and counter-insurgency campaign to fend off the threat of the local resistance movement. There are also indications that base security may be partially provided by Russian-based private military company.
The equipment and order of battle of the Iranian troops is reportedly compliant with the common Resource Zone Protection Force structure, including the enhanced defensive, ELINT and SIGINT capabilities. Due to the proximity of the Turkish coast, we estimate the force to be fairly well supplied.
      Avoid contact if possible.
    3. China
      Faction info: N/A
    4. Greek militia
      Faction info:
Several HUMINT sources claim the southwest of the operational area to be in the control of a local warlord. It is indicated that the said person controls an approximately battalion-sized paramilitary force maintaining law and order in the surroundings of Myrina. The intel source further indicated the militias are connected to and supported by the Iranian military force on the island, cooperating in a counter-insurgency campaign focused on neutralizing the resistance movement.
Militias are armed mostly with light weapons, support weaponry and vehicles, including armor and support helicopters, acquired from the OPFOR ally.
Cooperation with this group is not advisable under any circumstances.
    5. Bandits
      Faction info:
A large number of armed petty criminals is suspected to be present on the island, either as part of various paramilitary groups, local populace or originating from the fairly abundant number of refugees from Turkey, Crete, Cyprus, Balkans and North Africa.
Armament of the bandit group may consist of infantry weapons including explosives and light anti-armor and anti-air missile capabilities.
These groups are most likely to leave our troops undisturbed, however, they may take advantage of the situation of evading, escaping or wounded NATO personnel.

    INDEPENDENT:

    • Greek guerillas
      Faction info:
The presence of a local armed resistance movement is suspected, presumably sprouting from the pre-war organized crime structures. We expect this group to be hostile towards Iranian troops and Myrina Militias, whilst their relationships to smugglers and bandits may range from a neutral stance to a cordial cooperation. Little is known about the strengths and capabilities of this network.
Little is known about resistance equipment. Only light armament is estimated, with the possibility of additional capabilities captured from the other belligerents and looted from pre-war military depots of the Greek army.
Cooperation with local resistance is possible but not advisable due to the high security risks.
    • Russian PMC
      Faction info: N/A
    • Smugglers
      Faction info:
According to Agency reports on the current situation on Aegean, a large network of smugglers and traffickers operates on the margins of OPFOR-controlled territories. These parties comprise of local criminal bosses and petty warlords, using a general shortage of supplies to run a gray economy on the Aegean islands, Enclave of Chalkidiki, Turkish coast and Crete. Smugglers are reportedly tolerated and cooperating with many of the local Iranian commanders.
The smugglers are supposed to use mostly light weapons. Smuggling networks use a wide range of light vehicles, hover-crafts and speedboats.
Cooperation with smuggling parties is possible only with the direct authorization of the theater intelligence command.

    CIVILIANS:

This populace is significantly low in numbers, inhabiting mostly the south-western part of the island, falling under control of either the Iranian military authorities or the local paramilitary force. Farmers often inhabit the remote farms and distant villages in the countryside and in the mountains; however, the defensive safe zones established by the Iranian troops across the island has left most of the island’s surface uninhabited since its capture in 2025 (see Environment – History for further details). In the past years, Limnos became the transition location for refugees from Mediterranean coasts of Asia and Africa, who formed several isolated colonies or blended with the local population in and around the city of Myrina.

It is estimated that the amount of small arms in possession of the non-combatants may be fairly high.

Cooperation with local populace is to be avoided, unless critical conditions (evasion, escape, severe lack of logistic support) occur, as HUMINT sources indicate a high portion of the locals are loyal to the paramilitary authority (see Militias). Due to the constant and long-standing threats perceived by the locals, surprise appearance or improper behavior may result in an attack on NATO personnel.

    Story:

Evolve from a lone prey into a military commander in the open-ended & story-driven campaign.

After years of intense warfare against Eastern armies, Europe has become the last stand for the battered NATO forces. On the verge of being driven into the sea, NATO command embarks upon a most desperate measure. In the hope of seizing what seems to be a well-guarded military secret, Operation Magnitude is launched.

A small group of Special Forces and Researchers are sent to a Mediterranean island deep behind enemy lines. However, the mission is compromised and the task force destroyed, leaving Cpt. Scott Miller washed ashore upon the hostile island. In his effort to carry out the mission, he will face the dangers of modern warfare, an unforgiving environment, and the consequences of his own decisions...

Check the official ArmAverse timeline for more info.

75% of stuff we are introducing in game is already being used, introduced for field testing (aka more than just prototypes), 15% are prototypes and 5% is technically feasible ...

like 5% could be more in sci-fi part but that's just the strawberry on cake

  3. If you are refering to the ACE settings , no this is not the one marked in ace Clippie tool

No Voice - Disables AI radio chatter as well as player radio chatter

This does not seem to control the idle chatter from troops standing about or vechs :(

Mine is ticked and it does nothing

Do you know how to switch it off apart from using a script in a mission to disable it ?

I would really like to know

I will look it up for you. Just moved to Ireland from Holland so i dont have my computer here right now. But from memory you probably should disable it in one of the ACE files.

Yeah, but having to "V" over a 1 - inch concrete step is pretty bad. And when moving prone, your guy suddenly (and automatically!) jumps up to clear a pebble is life altering. Two BAD bugs.

This is nitpicking over a not so importend bad feature. There are 1000 things i can say about this game that are actually better than the rails shooters and are not even in the rails shooters. And there are also other things i hate about Arma but i can simply ignore because its nothing compared to the freedom you get in this game. And together with the DCS guy's it belongs to one of the best community's.

  4. OH christ , I hope the new arma3 version of ACE doesn't have those

    retarded voice clips in it

You get randon shite if the stand near a vech ,

also now soldiers say random comments and other crap ,

I wouldnt mind if they stuck this rubbish in the sound mod (WHERE is should be) ,

but no it is part of the main package ... utter fail

You can turn of those retarded voiceclips.

Dam there is alot of negativity on this forums.

  5. future soldier crap. meh

Ever heard of the community? ACE2 and probably Project reality are going to port their Addons to Arma 3 at release. So weapons, vehicels and units that are present now will be useable for you from the start. And that are more weapons and explosives that you can ever try in any game.

The future thing is just to avoid alot of licenses... If you cant even understand that decision and you cant understand that weapons that are used present will be available for you anyway for FREE your realy short sighted.

These developers like DCS do actually listen to their player base and we simmers should support that to the fullest. Even if its not your piece of cake. Unless you want the generic hollywood rails shooters and jet games to keep overshadowing these games. Yes the Arma series was not eprfect.. but atleast it gave you full freedom. And now you can even help in the Pre Alpha and Beta to iron out most bugs and maybe force some needed features. It seems alot of guy's here on the forums only see negatives.... Must be some grumpy virtual pilots to fly with.

  6. More and Impressive news from Bohemia for Arma3.

Those screenshots look amazing. If the gameplay is even a little bit better than it is now i will be in love again. And not to forget all the amazing things the community will be able to do with all the new features like swiming underwater, changing uniform, Physix and animations. Just wow.

    Quote from Bohemia:

Following E3, we plan to open up the game to our players. This process starts with the release of a playable build of Arma 3. We call it the 'Community Alpha'. It's intended to enable people who'd like to try the game early on in development help us to shape it up - and make Arma 3 the greatest release of the series. Ours is a large and complex game - being developed by a relatively small team - so we really appreciate your opinions, thoughts and feedback.

The Community Alpha will be quite limited in terms of the assets it includes, with the goal of providing enough content to experiment with the brand new bits of gameplay and technology. It also enables our passionate community to prepare their mods for the very latest version of the Real Virtuality engine. Then, later on in the year, we'd like to open up our game up even further with a more extensive beta program. The exact details, however, we intend to set out closer to their launch.

DirectX 10/11 has been implemented. PhysX is working - particularly, rag-doll animation looks really impressive! The UI is undergoing a redesign, with the focus upon improved usability. Indeed, ease of use, and particularly accessibility, has been an entire goal in itself. We've heard your feedback, and we want to make the game easier to learn for those new to the game, without sacrificing anything that makes our game unique. We have reworked our animations using completely new motion capture recordings. The result is the most realistic animations ever achieved in the series, as well as additional gameplay features.

The visuals and graphics, such as color, lighting, and effects - are quite breathtaking and a massive leap forward for the series. The scale of the map truly cannot be comprehended from the screenshots... it is HUGE, vastly beyond anything seen previously. Last, but certainly not least, we are committed to delivering you a slick and rock-solid multiplayer experience. You can already experience some of the low-level fixes and optimisations brought about by the major release of Patch 1.60 for Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead, and Multiplayer will be something we're keen to talk about as development continues.

    Full article: http://www.bistudio.com/english/company/developers-blog/285-scanning-the-horizon-arma-3-in-2012

This will be awesome. We can even provide more community feedback in a pre-Alpha. No more lots of bugs at initial release, cause we will be able to find them and report them early. :) :)

And the most importend feature for Arma 3.

We have adhered to a strong focus upon backward compatibility throughout the development, meaning we (and of course even you) are in a position to get older assets into A3 very quickly, just with few tweaks here and there. There are, of course, the new features which would require additional settings.

  7. Reading all of this, I have come to one conclusion. The BiS forums are DEAD.

Oh, and ED should get on the train and start selling physical products such as T-shirts and "fill to tabs" beer mugs.

LoL BIS forums are death???? You must be living on another planet. New Mods and addons are made everyday... New people post things everyday, old people are still posting since Operation Flashpoint, new Beta patches comes out atleast once a week. Please dont tell lies because you personally dont have a clue where to look.

  8. +1 for these idea's. I like the FC2 and DCS products alot. But the only immersion i get is from the fantasy in my head acting like i'm a fighterpilot when playing online on these products. The fidelity of the systems are really good. But i'm missing the other things that makes a fighterpilot aswell. Being a fighterpilot in a simm is not only having the most realistic systems and avionics in my opinion. Its also the whole aspect around it.

  9. Is there an option for a player to see what the AWACS sees announced? I don't recall this in the old beta. Did I miss it cause it would make a great option instead of using external software!

About the AWACS was wishfull thinking.. A man can dream. right :)

I wish there were some good ED SDK, so that we (developers team) could make our own payware add-on!

Why payware? I preferably have it just like Arma where the whole community can create things. Some good quality. Some shitty quality. But its free and creative.

  10. Like what? Tons and tons of what? Not really a good argument when you have to resort to "lots of stuff". Whatever it is, BS is still the standard in heli sims.

And you must have missed the fun factor in BS cos you make no mention of how fun the actual game is. You conveniently forget that aspect. But going by your analogy, I'd rather try and blow up a tank than cart around containers. So you want to replace the RL experience of a military attack chopper pilot with the RL experience of a commercial civil helicopter pilot? I know which one I'd rather choose.

You're right though, Take On is a sim lite and given the hype it generated before release (Ultra realistic FM) a little gloating would probably be expected. Me, I'd rather try to experience heli flight as close to the real thing as possible and that's not Take On atm.

Sorry if i have to make a list of things that are wrong with BS it go's on and on. Yes the list would not be as big as for Take On. But still. If you dont know whats wrong with BS you didnt play it that much. But i dont care about those things cause the final product is good enough for me and i appreciate all the hard work they put into BS and DCS A-10. The only thing that botters me are the people that are bashing other good simms with less cockpit/instruments/FM fidelity as BS. And say they are totally worthless.

I didn't miss the fun factor in BS at all... I'm having alot of fun with it. Because i make it fun myself... not because the game is that fun. Same as i do with Take On helicopters. But in that game other aspects for a better immersion have been introduced. And its that immersion that keeps out the boredom. I like flying highly realistic simms like BS. But in a game like BS the boredome hits when you fully understand how it works and if you played the destroy this and destroy that missions a thousend times.. after the first 2 months.

But how did you draw the conclusion that i would like to replace a mill simm with a civ simm??? For me a Mill simm is way more interesting. And its a wonder i even play Take On helicopters. But because they make you feel you are actually part of something makes me want to play this game. Just like in Simm Copter. In DCS you are totally detached from any immersion accept for instruments and FM. And i allready got used to the instruments and FM in the first month i got the game.

I totally understand that you and others dont like Take On and that your disapointed about the FM (go wonder after playing DCS). But people here are bashing it like its the worse game ever in the same fashion they did to Falcon. They are acting like COD players. Only their game can be good. Alot of hardcore DCS players are like that. And that doesn't help the simm community at all. We should embrace new simm's and try to make them better with our feedback. And in a game like Take On helicopters its actually possible to do that. And because you have SDK tools you can even convert this game into a Mill simm chopper game. And if all the modders work together a highly realistic attack chopper game could be made by the community. A highly realistic flight simm game is not only High fidelity instruments and FM. Its about simmulating all aspects of war/conflict.

  11. Like GGTharos said.. try Arma2 Combined Operations. There you can Create any fantasy you want. From Alien Invasions to zombie wars with Star wars troopers and working Stargates. :)

It would be fun to have Mod tools for DCS like they have in Arma2. But that is never gonna happen. They will stay with beautifull realistic planes :)

To show you a alien invasion in Arma2 check the vid below.

  12. So, do they model VRS yet? What about retreating blade stall? Rotor cone inclination? Ze list goes on...

Same with DCS Black Shark... If you want to be picky on that also than the list will go on and on for that game also. Maybe its the closest thing to reality simms we have now. But its still not reality and we can find tons and tons of things that are not implemented or not done right.

So.. Ze list goes on for DCS also.

Look at it from the game its own perspective...

DCS and FC2 are awesome and my personal fav's and everybody knows they are one or maybe the best simm out there. But your sounding so arrogant with that comment. Like if you dont have all that stuff its instantly rubbish... Maybe it is for you. But TOH is actually a great game and simmulates enough to be called a light simm. And its extremely fun to play. Seems fun isn't in your dicionary..... only FULL boring realism flying only training missions with the Black Shark because the Real life pilots in the blackshark do the same.

I can understand people wont like the game.. but some comments on this forum are only from their own personal perspective without seeing the bigger picture. Especially form the ED tester TEAM.

Its the same attitude as with Falcon. Thats a fantastic flight simm also but its talked down on these forums like it is some kind of HAWX.
